[VIDEO] The Desmond Tutu HIV Centre at UCT is testing long-acting injectable HIV treatment that could make it easier for young people to adhere to their medication. The treatment combines cabotegravir and rilpivirine and is administered every eight weeks, offering an alternative to daily oral medication.
The centre also provides HIV prevention services, including long-acting injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), which helps HIV-negative people prevent infection. Through its research and community-based services, the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation aims to improve access to HIV treatment and prevention, particularly in underserved communities.
