Given the heightened risk of fires & pressures on our fire services, I stopped in at Moulton Fire Station earlier today to meet with Helen Durman of @northantsfire & Brigade Secretary at @NorthantsFBU.
We discussed the measures that can be taken by the public & local authorities to reduce fire risks, & what more can be done to support our local firefighters in their critical & life-saving work. Really grateful to Helen for a candid & helpful meeting.

Today marks a significant step forward.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting has committed to introducing proper, consistent health monitoring for firefighters, including cancer screening.
As Firefighters we face serious risks to protect the public, yet too many become ill because of the job. Regular health checks and early cancer screening can genuinely save lives.
This is an important step and will save lives.

Across the UK, cuts to the fire service are putting communities at risk.
Today, FBU reps gathered in Oxford to express their solidarity with Oxfordshire firefighters, who will be the first to move towards industrial action, and to set out our nationwide fight against the cuts.
We are ready to take on these fights, ready to defend our members, and ready to win investment — not just resist decline.
