A giant of the Mara has fallen.
Fred, an iconic Mara Tusker, was found dead today of natural causes. Well into his fifth decade, Fred served as a symbol of the success @KWSKenya and Mara Elephant Project achieved in combatting ivory poaching over the last 15 years.
Fred’s counterparts didn’t live to see old age. How lucky we are that he did.
Collared since 2013, his tracking informed an approach that other Tuskers across Kenya benefited from. Even in death, Fred is the emblem for the Maasai Mara’s magic; thriving despite the challenges and contributing to a brighter future.
He will be missed, but what a life well lived.
We will be remembering Fred in the coming days. Stay tuned for more opportunities to join us in celebrating the life of this gentle giant.

Congratulations Kenya on the Global Trust Summit! Trust is fundamental to multilateral & regional cooperation as well as domestic development. By gathering government, civil society, private sector, academia and youth, Kenya put trust at the forefront in this highly timely event

It’s a steep, painful uphill struggle to get the message across, but it’s both important and laudable that the British ambassador is doing this, and I hope more Western ambassadors follow his example
(And the reason why the Kremlin/Russian MFA try to suppress this message is precisely because it undermines their whole “we have to do what we do because Europe is irredeemably Russophobic” narrative)

Key strategic tension from the panel:
• @MoussaMaraMali & @FCDOMattBaugh: Re-engineering local governance and using platforms like the G20 to overhaul debt architecture.
• The Big Debate: Pursuing a formal San Francisco-style diplomatic conference to rewrite the @UN Charter vs. executing targeted political pressure directly on key decision-makers.

“Trust is not created by promises alone. It is created when institutions, governments and international partners do what they said they would do.”
