Calling out churches for violating the law isn’t “persecution” or “intimidation.”
Churches are free to preach whatever they want, but tax-exempt status comes with rules.
If pastors want to operate as political operatives, they can pay taxes like everyone else.
A couple things on this, because progressives use this to bully and intimidate (conservative) pastors into silence:
1) While I am very clear about the evil of many policies currently being advanced by the DNC and CLEAR moral asymmetry between the proposed policies of the parties, I do not endorse candidates right now.
2) Progressives selectively report churches to the FFRF every year. You'll never see this article about the (primarily AA) churches Democrats are in every week leading up to an election. It's an attempt at street-level lawfare.
3) Articles like this are toothless and you should just chuckle at them. We have a lawyer that argues Religious Liberty cases before SCOTUS at Lakepointe. No church in US History has ever had their tax exempt status removed for a sermon, much less for one in which a candidate was not even endorsed.
4) In the words of a couple knowledgable guys I consulted with, it's a harassment and intimidation tactic to silence pastors.
Intent of this post isn't to be combative, but I have realized this fear has intimidated some pastor friends and after looking into it, wanted to remove that fear.
BOTTOM LINE: You are 100% free to be clear with your people about the (radical) moral asymmetry between the current proposed policies and ideologies of the parties AND to encourage your people to vote as an application of the command to be “the salt of the earth” and to “seek the welfare of the city” and to “live your neighbor”.
Is it permissible to teach the Ten Commandments in public school? Should religious exemptions to vaccines be allowed?
FFRF Legal Counsel Chris Line joins Jay Friedenberg for an in-depth talk on the blurring divide between state and church.

Christian nationalism doesn't need to become a full-blown theocracy to be dangerous.
When government promotes Christianity in schools and uses religious beliefs to restrict our rights, the threat is already here.
We must fight back before it becomes the norm.
An essay in Christianity Today says concerns about Christian Nationalism are exaggerated.
But even that defense points to support for teacher-led prayers, Ten Commandments displays in schools, and Christian “moral values.”
Those are real threats!

Our rights don't come from your god or anyone else's. They’re protected by a secular Constitution, not granted by a supernatural being.
If rights came from God, they’d depend on whose god you believe in.
That’s precisely why separating religion and government matters.
Tulsi Gabbard: “Our rights and freedoms do not come from government. They come from God. And God alone.”

There’s a third option: Reject this insane religious fearmongering and live a free life without worrying about imaginary threats of eternal torture.
The White House belongs to Americans of every religion and no religion.
If they want to turn it into a megachurch, the least they could do is start paying property taxes.
After decades of sexual abuse scandals, Catholic leaders still seem more concerned with punishing those who reject their authority than holding abusers accountable.
A damning indictment of an institution that claims to be a moral authority.
Scott Peyton's son was abused by a priest.
Despite being a deacon, Peyton left the Catholic Church to worship elsewhere... so the Church excommunicated him.
The priest? He's still technically a priest in the Church's eyes.
Read that again.

Only five false claims in a minute? David Barton would be disappointed. Those are rookie numbers.
In the span of one minute, Christian nationalist pastor Rob McCoy managed to make at least five demonstrably false claims about the Founding Fathers and the creation of the Constitution. peoplefor.org/rightwingwatch…
This is how authoritarianism gets wrapped in religion.
When a politician is seen as doing God’s work, questioning him becomes questioning God.
That’s a dangerous mindset in a democracy. No leader is divinely appointed or above accountability.
Children need love, stability, security and support. None of those things requires two biological parents.
Plenty of single parents, adoptive parents and same-sex couples raise wonderful kids.
The obsession with one “biblical” family model ignores what actually matters.
They’re not even pretending this is about religious freedom anymore. They’re openly discussing plans to seize political power and impose their religious ideology on everyone else.
When Christian nationalists tell us what they intend to do, we should believe them.
Racist white nationalist pastor Joel Webbon says his upcoming conference will begin the process of laying out "battle plans" for "Christian nationalists on the right to be able to seize power": "This is here to stay. And it's not if we win, it's when we win" peoplefor.org/rightwingwatch…
Religious freedom should never be a shield for child abuse or medical neglect. When faith conflicts with a child’s right to live, protecting the child must come first.
No religious belief should ever override that responsibility.
Elizabeth Struhs needed insulin to stay alive.
Her parents withheld it and prayed instead.
Now a Queensland inquest is examining whether government officials and health care workers could have prevented her death.
