When did life turn into the comments section? When did it become cool to wish the worst for those we disagree with? Trolling has become the new normal… but what if we chose kindness instead?

"This one is good enough." In this photo, we have two very different thermal imaging cameras from the same manufacturer: * K2: Situational Awareness TIC 160x120 resolution with a 9-hertz refresh rate and equipped with MSX * K33: Decision Making TIC 240x180 resolution with a 60-hertz refresh rate and equipped with FSX Many departments purchase based on price and are unaware of the performance differences. Fire departments must learn the differences in these models and invest in their training and education BEFORE purchasing, only to realize there are critical differences in the specifications of these devices and their limitations. The dangers of the spot temperature can be highlighted here using the Max Fire Box. Looking at the Max Fire Box optically, we can see fire, so we know that we have temps well over 900 degrees; however, looking at the TIC, the Spot Temp is showing 91 degrees.

TIC Whited Out? Many firefighters have stated that they were unable to see after entering the fire environment due to the TIC "whiting out."This effect occurs in newer Fire Service TICs due to two reasons. The display will show a white/or gray screen when moisture & (continued)

Have you heard of Mixed Gain mode from Seek Thermal? Check out the following video as we scan from floor to ceiling. You will notice that there is little to no lag/delay when transitioning from cooler to hot environments. Also, see the amount of detail that remains in focus even in the presence of high heat. Everyone discusses the importance of staying on a wall, a hose line, or staying oriented, but in today’s environment, firefighters are: * Working off the wall * Working off the hose-line * And conducting split searches When conditions change, a collapse occurs, or disorientation occurs, firefighters should be trained to use their situational awareness to regain orientation by scanning for: * Hoselines * Doorways: door frames can be identified, and in commercial or public buildings, the door handles or panic bars are metal which shows up differently due to low emissivity * Windows: The glass shows up differently in a thermal imaging camera due to low emissivity. * Vents (usually near windows) * Identify fire conditions and work away from the fire. And more! Check out our FREE webinar on the importance of a situational awareness TIC sponsored by Seek Thermal. What are the consequences of scanning too fast? We see the consequences of this played out daily in the fire service. The majority of the issues are due to the end user failing to scan properly: 1. Scans should start low not high: Firefighters who start high will cause the TIC to switch to low sensitivity (or medium sensitivity in the X380) and this causes a loss of detail in the lower cooler regions where victims may be located along with information regarding layout of the structure. 2. Scans should encompass the entire room from floor-wall-ceiling-wall. In many cases, we see firefighters scanning simply shoulder to shoulder but not turning their body or looking up or down. 3. Failing to wipe the lens: This causes moisture to build up on the lens and causes a white-out effect or a loss of detail. 4. Failing to understand the TICs abilities when it switches from high to low sensitivity: Firefighters are caught off guard when the TIC encounters heat and freezes. If the TIC freezes or lags, it is not broken! Firefighters must freeze to allow the TIC to adjust to the heat. As the human eye takes a moment to adjust from darkness to bright light, so does the TIC take time to adjust from cold to extreme heat. Check out the following three-part article series on “Breaking Down the Scan” that fully explains this topic and answers your question as well: Part 1: ow.ly/eKSW50OR1zq Part 2: ow.ly/skhS50OR1zr Part 3: ow.ly/iiuT50OR1zm
