Tigers fans have waited so long to have a baseball team that’s in buy mode on trade deadline day. Today was that day. Kyle Finnegan and Charlie Morton are your prized additions. Extremely disappointing deadline.

Pope Leo XIV at his first Mass: “Peter expresses the patrimony that the Church through 2000 years of Apostolic Succession has preserved: Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, the only Saviour, who alone reveals the face of the Father.”

From Pope Leo XIV today in a Mass for the college of Cardinals: "Even today, there are many settings in which the Christian faith is considered absurd, meant for the weak and unintelligent. Settings where other securities are preferred, like technology, money, success, power, or pleasure. These are contexts where it is not easy to preach the Gospel and bear witness to its truth, where believers are mocked, opposed, despised or at best tolerated and pitied. Yet, precisely for this reason, they are the places where our missionary outreach is desperately needed. A lack of faith is often tragically accompanied by the loss of meaning in life, the neglect of mercy, appalling violations of human dignity, the crisis of the family and so many other wounds that afflict our society. Today, too, there are many settings in which Jesus, although appreciated as a man, is reduced to a kind of charismatic leader or superman. This is true not only among non-believers but also among many baptized Christians, who thus end up living, at this level, in a state of practical atheism."

So you’re telling me we got the rest of the world to do the lowest value, lowest profit margin, most capital intensive, and most cyclical parts of economic activity. And in exchange, they gave our companies the cheapest priced goods in the world to resell and thrive off of. Which then gave our companies the time to pursue the actual high value parts of economic activity (you know, like Silicon Valley, Wall Street, military R&D, etc). And all we had to do was give them IOU’s for an imaginary currency unit that we would only ever pay them back in worthless real terms in, if we ever repaid them at all. And… we were the ones that demanded this system come to an end?
