20 liberals. Different countries and political realities. Many of the same challenges. At the #PoliticalLeadershipMBA in South Africa, participants found common ground across borders, and a shared belief that liberalism is strongest when it offers an optimistic vision for the future. 🌍 #Up4Democracy #FreedomInProgress

Reports that Hon. Martha Karua was denied entry into Uganda and detained at Entebbe Airport are deeply concerning. At the heart of this matter are basic democratic principles: due process, access to legal counsel, freedom of movement, and respect for the rule of law. Legal professionals and democratic actors must be able to carry out their work without intimidation. We call for clarity, transparency and full respect for the rights of all persons involved. #RuleOfLaw #HumanRights #Up4Democracy
The People’s Liberation Party (PLP) registers it's strongest protest and profound condemnation regarding the arbitrary detention and forced deportation of our Party Leader Hon. Martha Karua @MarthaKarua, at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda today.

This video puts it into perspective. Germany is South Africa’s third-largest trading partner globally, and South Africa is Germany’s most important partner on the African continent. The scale is not even close. In 2024, South Africa was Germany’s largest export market in Africa at €9.1 billion, more than double the next country. On the other side, South Africa also led African exports to Germany at €10.4 billion, again well ahead of the rest of the continent. This is not just a strong relationship. It is a defining one. Exports to Germany: up 4x in a decade. But ~60% = automotive. And with US tariffs hitting SA auto exports hard, the risk is clear: Concentration = vulnerability. 📘 Report: freiheit.org/de/node/52081 🎟 RSVP: quicket.co.za/.../359604-the… #FNFutureTradeSAGermany

What does South Africa actually export to Germany? This second video in our South Africa–Germany Trade Relations series takes a closer look and the answer is clear. Over the past decade, vehicle exports have come to dominate the relationship. From already leading in 2014, to making up around half of exports by 2018, and reaching roughly 60% by 2024, the automotive sector has been a real success story for South Africa’s industrial policy. But that success now comes with risk. New US tariffs and the global shift to electric vehicles are starting to reshape the landscape, raising important questions about the future of this sector. Presented by Paul Berkowitz. 📺 Watch here: youtube.com/shorts/Myq0_OCMe… 📘 Read the full report: freiheit.org/de/node/52081 🎟 RSVP for The Emerging Trade Order (26 March): quicket.co.za/events/359604-… #FNFutureTradeSAGermany
