PROJECT HAIL MARY author Andy Weir has an idea for a STAR WARS and STAR TREK crossover.
“In my mind, I call it 'Star Star’…The idea is that the Genesis device going off at the end of 'The Wrath of Khan' rips a hole in the fabric of reality. And so did, too, the Death Star exploding in 'A New Hope.' It becomes the Yavin/Mutara wormhole. Then I imagine the Enterprise goes there, and so from that point forward, the stories diverge from canon…When the Enterprise goes to the 'Star Wars' universe, Spock [Leonard Nimoy] is dead, because it's the end of 'The Wrath of Khan,' but then Spock becomes a Force ghost. And Sulu [George Takei] has inherent Jedi abilities which manifest once he goes there."

It should confuse everyone. It's why nobody takes MAGA Christian faith seriously. It's insane to pretend to care for migrants and then elect someone who has build an entire political empire on demonization and dehumanization of migrants. It makes your gospel look small and stupid

I wonder if this film has anything to say about Luke Skywalker's relationship to his own myth, & if he'll do anything incredibly baller by the end of the film that will reaffirm his legacy as a Jedi that has him directly atone for his own failings with young Ben Solo. 🤔

Most of these types of critiques are frustrating because they’re posed as if believers have never thought about it before and have no answers.

The real problem here is the idea of proxy voting. It can only be up to the individual as to whether family or generational interests influence their politics the most.

I hope the NYT replaces Ross Douthat with a Catholic writer who is more reflective of the political and theological perspectives of Pope Leo and Pope Francis—rather than the provincial, and out of sync, concerns of some Catholic conservative American culture warrior

If the actions and policies of the Trump admin can be described as anything approaching "Catholic Social Teaching," then the latter is so vague that it has no value. I don't think this is the case, though, and Barron has simply misapplied it egregiously.

This is such a perversion of scripture for political ends. There are many ways to understand the sins of Judas, but "suicidal empathy" for the poor is not one of them.
Take note, sir:
Suicidal empathy was literally the sin of Judas.
Think of what that money could have done for the poor, says the man who turns Christ over to the Roman authorities, and later hung himself in despair.
He makes the statement when Lazarus's sister Mary annoints the feet of Jesus with a costly perfume.
The wisdom in making a misapplied, deceitful and narcissistic empathic altruism the sin of the betrayer of Christ Himself is breathtaking.
It's another example (along with bottomless depths of the story of Cain and Abel and the brazen serpent who is also Jesus) of the truly incomprehensible literary genius of the Biblical canon.

Sure, Barron can wring some somewhat platitudinous abstractions out of Saad's notion of "toxic empathy," but that displays an ignorance of what it's all really about—not charity, but giving oneself permission to ridicule, demonize, and scapegoat. Same with Rufo and Lindsay.

Honestly, the point he makes is good: that charity is higher than empathy, and acting on empathy without charity is problematic.
I think people are either reading into what he says, responding to the triggers, and/or responding to what has been triggered. Admittedly, there are a lot of triggering words in the post, but we need to rise above that to look at point being made. And that goes both ways; a liberal may use a triggering phrase, but if a conservative focuses on the trigger at the expense of the meaning, then bad reading/listening has occurred.
But I don’t know of any Catholic who would disagree that charity is higher than empathy, and that acting on empathy without charity is problematic.

As a pastor at a church with mostly homeless congregants I’ve become hyper aware of how anti-homeless sentiment has seeped into every corner our society. Absolutely disturbing.
If you don’t have empathy for the homeless you don’t have Christ dwelling within you.

There’s no rational conversation that can be had about religion with politically active Evangelicals because their core belief is that the most evil thing a person can be is a Democrat.
