₹25,000 a month put a person in India's top 10% by income in 2022-23. It was less than a central government peon's starting pay.
Only 6.6% of Indian workers earn that much in a regular salaried job, barely more than in 2017-18. 1/3
And the salary buys less: 7.3 g of gold in 1993-94, 2.1 g in 2025-26. A home costs more years of pay.
Three in four workers aged 15 to 59 who report earnings make under ₹20,000 a month. The top 10% took 58% of income in 2022-23. 2/3
