'@LandoNorris is upbeat about @McLarenF1 MCL40 upgrades, although he'll only run the full package on Saturday: "FP1 was a little bit of a surprise, a pleasant surprise. Even though I had half and half, and we're going put everything together for tomorrow, the upgrades also seem to have given what we hoped for, I would say. Ultimately the upgrades are there to just bring lap time and bring performance. They're not set out just to improve handling. A perfect upgrade is one that kind of brings lap time and at the same time brings a handling upgrade, especially with how tricky the car's been. "I would say maybe there's a small change in the right direction, that it seems just a little bit more straightforward to drive. But I don't think we can ever judge things over just one track."

Hamilton and Norris had reason to be frustrated: the deployment rules, combined with Mexico’s unique characteristics, created a “speed limiter”! Read on 👇 Here is why: -The high altitude reduced drag by ~20%, making slipstreams weaker and increasing top speeds -The slow Sector 3 meant that even the leading car had plenty of energy on the straight -Even with overtake mode, ERS power must drop dramatically above 337 km/h: gaining speed gets harder and harder, as power decreases linearly while drag power increases cubically! ERS power hits zero above 350 km/h, making further gains very hard with just the ICE’s ~550 hp (less power than an F2 car) Look at how suddenly acceleration dropped at high speed (blue line on the right): HAM and NOR effectively hit a speed limiter! Good news for next year, though: the power drop-off will be scrapped, as the slightly increased fuel flow will make energy management more sustainable [Via @JMP_software #YesJMPcan]
