An Azerbaijani mother has spoken out after her daughter was reportedly denied access to school for wearing the hijab, amid growing protests against restrictions on Islamic dress in the country’s schools.
The controversy follows new dress-code regulations that do not explicitly ban the hijab but prohibit clothing deemed incompatible with secular education.
The restrictions have sparked protests, arrests and international criticism from Islamic organisations and human rights groups.
