ALT FXB Center for Health & Human Rights at Harvard University. Pediatric mental health is a crisis in the United States and even more prevalent in migrants. This crisis is only exacerbated by detaining child migrants as they cross the border. Despite the clear condemnations from professional medical and public health organizations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Psychological Association, and Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. has the largest immigration detention system in the world. To meet our commitment to protect children, we advocate for the end of child migrant detention and the assignment of their protection to an agency adequately equipped to meet the needs of these children. ALT Quote card: Activists, policymakers, and scholars increasingly have advocated for reparations payments to Black Americans to redress the harms of enslavement and discriminatory practices that followed. This study found a 29% reduction in premature mortality and a 25.6% reduction in overall mortality among Black adults under the reparations intervention. These findings provide evidence that reparations are a lifesaving and justice-promoting social policy that could significantly contribute to efforts to eliminate health inequities.
