We have a new paper from a multi-year, multi-disciplinary effort lead by @PrincetonSPIA, @UCBerkeley, and @rff out in @Nature that estimates the Social Cost of Carbon (SCC) as $185, more than 3x larger than current U.S. federal estimate.

New(ish) paper out in Lancet Planetary Health. TLDR: Limiting warming to 2°C could avoid ~13.5 million premature air pollution deaths by 2050. More equitable burden sharing lowers costs for LMICs but shifts some near-term health benefits away from them.

We have a paper out in @ScienceMagazine today showing how new guidelines allowing for income weighting in federal cost-benefit analysis would affect the social cost of carbon. Main takeaway, the SC-CO2 increases nearly 8x to ~$1300/ton. @rff @ERGBerkeley

Really cool/creative science linking octopus (octopi?) genetics and evidence of a past collapse of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet.

What unfolds when ecosystems shift across national borders due to climate change?
Thrilled to share our latest paper in @nature, which delves into the consequences of these climate-driven biome migrations on human well-being.

In the final rule, EPA finds net benefits of $97 billion, driven largely by the climate. To me, this both highlights the importance of continuing to improve our ability to quantify climate damages, and the potential for more ambitious climate policy to deliver social net benefits

Is this the first time positive net monetized benefits of a federal regulation hinge on the climate benefits?
Along with the methane rule EPA appears to have finalized its social cost of carbon estimates, with no changes to the #s compared to the draft released last May. And I don't still an endorsement from the interagency group, so this is EPA only.

Pretty wild to have contributed a (small) piece to this major change in US climate policy. Not possible without an amazing, interdisciplinary team of dedicated researchers!
