Media Network Launched to Champion Resilient Food Systems
The #IGAD Media and Influencer Training on DACAS and the IGAD Fertilizer and Soil Health Hub concluded today in Nairobi, 🇰🇪, with the official launch of the FSRP Media and Influencers Network.
Over three days, participants produced articles, radio segments, videos and social media content on soil health and climate advisory services, refining them through a review of technical accuracy, sourcing and audience relevance. The training closed with the adoption of the Network’s Terms of Reference and the nomination of Regional Champions.
Through this Network, IGAD is building a lasting partnership with journalists and influencers to advance the CAADP Kampala Declaration and food security across the region.

💬Too often, the warning comes before the disaster, but the resources arrive after the damage. That is the gap we have come here to close.”

Kuna kitu huwa sielewi. We can predict floods and droughts months in advance, lakini somehow the money only becomes available after people have lost their homes and livelihoods.
Today in Mombasa, @DrWorkneh challenged this approach. Surely, preventing a disaster's impact should be easier than paying for the damage afterwards?

Climate-induced disasters are occurring with increasing regularity and intensity, exerting pressure on livelihoods and threatening public safety and the stability of our societies.
We are therefore strengthening our early warning and response systems to mitigate the impact of droughts, floods, and other climate-related disasters, and safeguard lives and livelihoods.
The Government is also integrating disaster risk reduction and management into both short- and long-term national planning, including resilient infrastructure.
Opened the 2nd Eastern Africa Dialogue Platform on Anticipatory Action.
We commend the Intergovernmental Authority on Development for convening this dialogue in partnership with Kenya, and reaffirm our commitment to implementing the resolutions.

Too often, warnings come before disasters, but resources arrive only after the damage is done. This must change.

Our success must be measured not by the disasters we respond to, but by the lives and livelihoods we protect before they strike.

From Washington to Beijing, Brussels to Moscow, Africa is certainly not short of international partners.
The question is whether these relationships are translating into opportunities for ordinary Africans.
Diplomacy must eventually show results at home.

Arrived for the Africa-Russia Summit in Moscow.
Gracious welcome by my brother Mohamed Abukar Zubeyr, Somali Ambassador to Russia and Mr Andrei Milyaev, Deputy Director of the Department of State Protocol at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Look for a fruitful dialogue in a number of issues.
Kwani we've reached a point where politicians must first be liked before they're allowed to speak?
From the incident involving Governor Natembeya to reports from Bungoma, this trend is worrying.
Let everyone speak. Wananchi have ears, opinions and, ultimately, the vote.
losing interest in someone you really liked, especially when they never entertained you.
like yes… I’m actually going to be okay without you.

On behalf of H.E. @DrWorkneh, I had a fruitful courtesy visit to H.E. Amb. @GraceOkara, Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat.
I briefed her on @IGADsecretariat's work in Kenya and across the region.
We also explored areas of collaboration, including the role of youth in building climate resilience, nutrition, and joint habitat-sensitive programs to enhance regional resilience.
We also discussed reviving IGAD’s flagship initiative of jointly planting African indigenous fruit trees—an effort that not only supports reforestation but also promotes nutrition and food security.
IGAD remains committed to fostering partnerships that drive sustainable development.
Grateful for her kind invitation of IGAD to the UN-Habitat Assembly and look forward to continued engagement. – at Nairobi, Kenya
