According to reporting from the Toronto Star, before sentencing Frederick Moore for the crime of aggravated sexual assault, Justice Gillian Roberts told his victim, Susan Gilbreath, that lifting the publication ban would be "very unfair" to her attacker. On March 24, 2023, Frederick Moore, then 51, attacked his then partner, Susan Gilbreath, 47. This quote detailing the circumstances of the events is taken verbatim from the judgement, "When Ms. Gilbreath returned to the home she shared with Mr. M. after being away overnight, Mr. M. confronted her about perceived infidelity, and they argued. Mr. M. proceeded to physically and sexually assault Ms. Gilbreath, including threatening to kill her, ripping off the pants of the pink pant suit she was wearing, attempting to penetrate her vagina digitally, removing her tampon and attempting to shove it in her mouth, and attempting to force his hand up her vagina." Moore then chased Gilbreath out of their residence and banged her head against the wall of the elevator. She managed to escape into the lobby, whereupon some bystanders intervened to help her to flee alone in her car. The victim was both physically injured and traumatised by the attack. She had to wait 3.5 years for the sentencing. Moore pleaded guilty to the vicious attack. Prior to this attack, Moore had a criminal record: -2000-02-16 assault cause bodily harm; suspended sentence and 1 year probation -2018-06-08 impaired driving ; $2000 fine & 12 month driving prohibition -2023-01-20 impaired driving; 20 days & 2 year driving prohibition -2023-01-20 assault by choking 17 days & 12 months probation (3 days Pre-Sentence Custody) -Failure to comply undertaking s.145(4); 10 days concurrent & 12 months probation As Justice Gillian Roberts noted in her judgment, "It is also aggravating that Mr. M. has a criminal record for [intimate partner violence] and was on probation in relation to a sentence for choking his former intimate partner at the time of the instant offence." The Crown asked for an 8 year sentence less time served. However, Moore was sentenced to only 3.5 years less time served for his crime, which the judge herself said was, "very low" given the seriousness of the offence and its impact on Gilbreath. I counted about 19 passages in the judgment about Moore’s background and rehabilitation, including supporting testimonials, compared with four passages about Gilbreath’s injuries and the lasting impact on her and her family. Roberts described Moore’s rehabilitation as, "[A]mong the most profound transformations I have seen in over 30 years of work in the criminal justice system," and wrote, "I find that Mr. M. is a changed person." Ultimately the publication ban was lifted. Frederick Moore was released on bail pending appeal.

"We need better tracking" What do they think? A real-time "Random Stabbings Data Dashboard" is going to solve the problem? The solution is simple and we all know it: Lock up the bad guys!

My reflection is the following, Canada has a VERY short memory Justin Trudeau was shitcanned and removed from the Liberal party over 2 things: - Mass migration failures - And MASSIVE out of control deficit and debt But Mark Carney is on track to beat trudeau in those 2 categories. By ALOT The excuse of: "He’s new… give him a chance" has run its course This budget exposes squarely the intention and direction that Carney is pursuing Which begs the question: Will Canada tolerate for Carney, what they repudiated with Trudeau… simply because the plan is carried out by a different messenger? Oh Canada… you never cease to surprise me… Sadly in the worse ways possible

BREAKING: Canada's unemployment rate hits a 6-month high after losing 114,700 jobs in just 3 months. Yet Mark Carney just snuck record-smashing immigration levels into yesterday's budget. Canadians need jobs, not more mass immigration: conservative.ca/cpc/no-retur…

The biggest unreported story from yesterday: Carney snuck into the budget a massive immigration increase with the LARGEST NUMBER OF NEW PERMANENT RESIDENTS EVER next year. Nearly 200,000 more than Trudeau’s highest-ever number year. When we have a shortage of jobs, homes, and health care. Now we know why Carney snuck his immigration plan into a budget when everyone was distracted by the midterms and right before Parliament shuts for 10 days. Unacceptable. This needs a real debate.

Do sandwich artists count?
In Budget 2026, we’re backing the Canadian artists who tell our stories. That means if you’re a Canadian artist, you won’t pay tax on up to $45,000 of income derived from your creative work.

An 8-year-old boy was beaten with a baseball bat, shot with a BB gun, burned with cigarettes, forced to eat cat feces and his own vomit, and locked inside a cabinet overnight. His name was Gabriel Fernandez. The man convicted of torturing him to death, Isauro Aguirre, was sentenced to death in California. Now, Gov. Gavin Newsom is moving to commute that sentence, along with those of hundreds of other condemned inmates, to life without parole. For months, Gabriel was subjected to horrific abuse at the hands of Aguirre and his mother, Pearl Fernandez. He was beaten, burned, sprayed with pepper spray, bound and gagged. By the time first responders reached his Palmdale home on May 22, 2013, his small body was covered in injuries. He had a fractured skull, broken ribs, missing teeth, burns and BB pellets embedded in his flesh. Prosecutors presented evidence that Aguirre targeted Gabriel in part because he believed the little boy was gay. Gabriel’s teacher repeatedly reported signs of abuse. Child protective services investigated. Sheriff’s deputies visited the home. The institutions responsible for protecting him had multiple opportunities to intervene. Gabriel died on May 24, 2013. He was just eight years old. In 2017, a jury convicted Aguirre of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of intentional torture. In 2018, he was sentenced to death. Gabriel’s mother received life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Newsom’s proposed commutations would not release Aguirre from prison or overturn his conviction. They would replace his death sentence with life imprisonment without parole. A jury heard the evidence of what Aguirre did to Gabriel Fernandez and sentenced him to death. That is the punishment California’s governor is now seeking to change.
BREAKING: California Gov. Gavin Newsom has commuted the death sentences of all 548 people on the state’s death row to life without parole, in the largest mass commutation in modern U.S. history.

I have been waiting 24 years for my neighbor David Westerfield to be executed for the kidnapping and murder of my 7-year-old neighbor, Danielle van Dam. And now thanks to @GavinNewsom, it looks like it will never happen. I was 13 when he abducted her from her bedroom in the middle of the night in 2002. I would never equate what I experienced with what her family suffered, but Danielle's murder devastated our whole neighborhood, and me personally. I was a sensitive kid and it was a major contributor to my mental health decline in adolescence. In the 20 days between her disappearance and his arrest, I developed insomnia and spent those nights walking around the house checking the locks on the doors and windows. I followed the trial closely. As we learned the horrific details, I couldn't stop thinking about what she endured during the 3 days he had her. Her body was found dumped off the side of a road 25 days after she went missing. It was too decomposed to test for sexual assault, but we all knew that's why he took her. He was also convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material found on his computer. There was never any doubt about Westerfield's guilt. There was an abundance of forensic evidence, including her blood on his clothing and in his motorhome. In 2019, the California Supreme Court unanimously upheld his conviction and death sentence. Shortly afterward, Newsom imposed his moratorium. And now he does THIS. California voters rejected abolishing the death penalty in both 2012 and 2016, and even voted to expedite executions. All these years, I've held on to the hope that someone would eventually take office who respected the will of California voters and would allow these sentences to be carried out. It's especially insulting to hear Newsom go on about morality, as if he is morally superior to those of us whose lives were affected by these heinous crimes and who want to see the perpetrators brought to justice. I'm hoping the California Supreme Court can stop Westerfield's commutation.

The Liberals are tabling their budget today, on a Thursday afternoon before MPs return to our ridings for a week. He will face no questions in the House of Commons about the country's finances until two weeks from now. His utter contempt for parliament is disgraceful.

‼️ MAJOR BREAKING: Carney's budget just locked in 750,000 immigration admissions a year. That's more than the entire city of Mississauga. Every year. For 3 years. 380,000 permanent residents a year.
370,000 new temporary residents a year.
Plus up to 200,000 temporary residents fast-tracked to permanent status. The Canadian Press reported that Canada could add MORE than 600,000 new permanent residents next year alone. Imagine what this is going to do to our healthcare. Carney told us "immigration is back under control." A MISSISSAUGA A YEAR ISN'T "CONTROL." IT'S A CHOICE.

I am absolutely disgusted by the violent attack on a Canadian Armed Forces member while supervising young cadets at a poppy drive in Hamilton. Those who dedicate their time to honouring our veterans should never have to fear for their safety. #Hamilton

Disappointing, but not at all surprising it’s virtually crickets at City Hall and few of our MPs or MPPs have said a word. The ones many of us would expect to demonstrate moral clarity have chosen to make a statement. The rest, not so much. #HamOnt
