Many first-time founders w/o truly deep domain expertise start off seeing the world today (2018) It then takes 6-9 mos of learnings to see where the world really will be And then 12 months after that to get a true sellable product in market So -> 24 mos to get somewhere good

A great salesteam is almost a guaranteed pick-me-up for any startup. The energy of winning deals reminds everyone that are building something real, that matters. Sometimes hard to tell staring at a monitor.

If you are successful, it’s almost always because some people went out of their way to help you. You have a moral obligation to pay it forward.

The weak VCs spend most of their time with LPs The mediocre VCs spend most their time with other VCs The good VCs spend most of their time with entrepreneurs The greatest VCs are the entrepreneurs

It's a huge risk building on top of someone else's platform They can take it away, charge a ton for access later, and in general, change the rules on you But what you get back is scale, if you do it right So the question I just ask is, what's your back-up plan?

One of the toughest management lessons for most very driven founders to learn is you have to go into battle with the troops you have You have to play to your team strengths and just augment their weaknesses Picking on those weaknesses is a recipe for disaster

In innovation & entrepreneurship the most difficult thing is not to figure out what to do, but what to do next/first. In a context of constrained resources & high uncertainty getting the next step right can be the difference between success & bankruptcy/failure! – at Zermatt, Switzerland

Runway is not just a number on a dashboard—it’s the time every founder has left until they 1/ Raise the next round on strong metrics 2/ Are profitable and alive by default 3/ Shut down Every action and decision drives to one of these 3 outcomes. Choose wisely. 🤞

You can be wrong on a lot of decisions if you are really right on a few huge ones. Optimize for the magnitude of your good decisions, not the percentage of the time you are right.

Wow, @a16z podcasts are just fantastic. I generally think that entrepreneurs and investors discuss the intricacies of the go-to-market phase too little, especially in the nordics, which is why this podcast by @martin_casado makes me so happy a16z.com/2018/02/24/category…
