The sugar policy modernization provisions included in the  budget reconciliation legislation deliver a resounding win for America’s farm and food economy, from farmers to manufacturers to consumers. This achievement would not have been possible without the steadfast leadership of Chairs Boozman and Thompson and the good-faith partnership between sugar producers and sugar-using industries. AFSP applauds Congress for enacting sensible updates to the U.S. sugar program that strengthen the sugar supply chain and lower food costs for hardworking families.

The Alliance for Fair Sugar Policy congratulates Brooke Rollins on her confirmation to serve as Secretary of Agriculture. Secretary Rollins and USDA have a tremendous opportunity to meaningfully reduce food costs for American families by advancing sensible improvements to the administration of the U.S. sugar program. AFSP’s broad coalition of small family-owned businesses and manufacturers, retailers, food and beverage companies, trade associations, environmental advocates, taxpayer watchdog organizations, responsible government advocates, think tanks, and others look forward to working with Secretary Rollins to help strengthen America’s farm and food economy.

The U.S. sugar program is outdated. It’s time to make the program more consistent with other commodity programs, such as those for corn, peanuts, and soybeans. 🥜
