Looking for examples of dungeon maps from conception to final drafts.
How do you all approach the creative process? I always have to start with word clouds lmao!
But here is an example of a rough WIP! Mostly inspired by Zelda, Dark Souls, or World of Warcraft!
That feeling right before you download WoW and you realize that you still need 100 add-ons...
Reminds me of Skyrim lmao
This is an extremely cool concept. The trailer shows a lot of really novel mechanics that make me want to play.
There is an issue, tho, I think. One of the highest draws to "Skyrim" is being able to *see* huge landmarks off in the distance and your ability to walk towards them.
2D games do not have that. RPGs of the era coped by giving the overland maps & airships.
Final Fantasy. Chrono Trigger. Secret of Mana. All use these to great effect.
Zelda-like might be a better deacription for this game even if, mechanically, it does look closer to Skyrim. However, if the game is a single, continuous map with no loading screens (beyond dungeons), I would be very excited to see what's going on here lol
The first part of this 14 hour World of Warcraft Classic retrospective is actually just starter zones and background lore...
God I do miss that feeling of playing the game for the first time 🤣
The Rogue combo point system in World of Warcraft is my favorite resource system.
I'd like to port that into D&D...
I also like the idea of generating Magic this way. It would be something like casting Firebolt 2 times to generate the spell slot to cast Fire Ball 😆 🔥
So, I'm thinking, grid based dungeons that arrange themselves based on dice.
Does that doorway lead to a treasure vault, or just another hallway that dead ends?
Is that too unrealistic for modern players, or does it slow the game down with too many rolls?
Im sure a lot of games & books have thought about or used this kind of mechanism. Id be curious if anyone knows any.
It basically turns your next dungeon into a roguelike
TTRPG fans,
Are we all about exploration, combat, or that sweet, sweet loot?
I really love the exploration. It's why I started doing random fantasy maps when I was a kid 😆
It's also why I loved Lineage & WoW so much. Wandering the world and seeing sights 🤷♂️
Way better than combat lol

Since 1984 the world(s) of the Black Company has been ambiguous. With no official or canonical maps for the story.
Then in 2025, mere months before the release of Lies Weeping, Glen Cook released this hand-drawn sketch of the Land of Unknown Shadows.
I hope, one day, that I can create a gane that warrants an 8 hour YouTube retrospective
Even if it's one about how bad the game was lol
What do DMs look for when they buy supplemental products?
Is a pretty picture good enough?
Or is it about saving as much time as possible with prep? XD
I feel like I already know it's B, but they always told me a good picture is worth 1000 words 🙄🤔😁 #ttrpg

I'm terrible at self promotion. Drawing maps is more fun than making stupid videos. But, my website was neglected and sad, so i fixed it. chloethecartographer.com. Check it out. Back to designing a spaceship, which honestly is the most fun. #artist #maps #portfolio #cartography
Was starting to feel sick after barbell rows...
But, magically, doing curls made me feel better 🤷♂️
Seems right
