Bringing music to new places: In September, the Faris Foundation Music Therapist at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital provided music therapy services to a pediatric patient in the OR! #brighterdays #childhoodcancerawareness @MDAndersonNews
Melissa was the first music therapist from MD Anderson to provide music therapy services to a patient as they were going under anesthesia. Melissa states that “music can be distractive and calming, if played with clinical intent.”
Melissa synchronized her playing to the patients breathing, singing lullabies as she fell asleep. The OR staff asked if music therapy could be provided at every procedure. A BIG win for creative arts therapies! #musictherapy
