Today, I attended the Financial Innovation and Impact Engagement event hosted by @Fatiskira founder of OTECH Bank.
As a daughter of Borno, I left feeling proud and inspired. We often hear stories about the challenges facing our region, but today was a reminder that there are also stories of excellence, resilience and achievement worth celebrating.
Seeing a woman from Arewa build a bank and open its doors to the public is no small feat. It is a powerful statement about what is possible when vision, hard work and determination come together… I encourage everyone to support OTECH Bank. When we support women who dare to lead and build, we create space for more women to dream bigger and achieve even greater things.
Congratulations, Mrs. Fatima Yarima Askira. You have made Borno proud, made the Northeast proud and reminded us all that greatness can come from anywhere.
May OTECH Bank continue to grow from strength to strength.

It is a great milestone to witness OTech Bank being enacted today, and what is even more elating is that the brain behind it is a woman, which challenges our society’s long-held perceptions about women.
Congratulations, @Fatiskira. You are a game changer. 👏🏽🎉

Fatima Yerima Askira, a University of Maiduguri graduate, launched Otech Microfinance Bank today.
@Fatiskira is the founder and managing director/chief executive officer of the bank. The launch expands her 12-year work in social justice, peacebuilding, and education.
She founded Better Orientation for Women and National Development Initiative, @Bridgeforwomen, and Fayasschool before starting the microfinance bank.
“From UNIMAID lecture halls to building institutions that serve people, the goal has always been impact,” Askira said at the launch.
Otech Microfinance Bank will focus on financial services for underserved Nigerian women and small businesses. The Central Bank of Nigeria licenses microfinance banks to serve low-income earners and entrepreneurs.
The launch adds Askira to UNIMAID graduates leading institutions across Nigeria.
