Looking forward to seeing @FCCPS update their guidance accordingly. @FCCPS also needs to drop the vax requirement for sports and club participation immediately. It is unnecessary and discriminatory.
HUGE news coming out of VDH! Asymptomatic quarantines are no longer recommended for Students, Teachers and Staff in Child Care, K-12 Schools, and Day Camp Settings. vdh.virginia.gov/content/upl… @APSReady @SuptDuran @APSVirginia

Here is the best data on school mask mandates *to date* ➡️ No meaningful effect of masking kids in school. This does *not* mean we can't derive benefit from masking on an individual level ... 1/3
In Catalonia 🇪🇸, 6yo wore masks in schools but 5yo did not A brilliant team used this to see what effect mask wearing had on #COVID19 transmission Finding: No difference between the two groups Conclusion: No meaningful effect of masking school children papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.…

This is dystopian. The CDC just lowered the standard for speech in early childhood development. Instead of highlighting the harmful effects masking & social isolation have had on small children the CDC just lowered the bar. Presto! No impact!

Representing #UrgencyOfNormal on @CBSNews -we lack evidence of benefits of masking kids; there are downsides -normal childhood has enormous value -high risk have access to vax -vax doesn't halt transmission; child vax rate shouldn't affect return to normalcy or used to segregate

"At this juncture, with 2 years of accumulated evidence, we have not seen evidence that masking children in schools significantly reduces the transmission of COVID-19." @drlucymcbride brings data to the townhall discussion.

@FCCPS SI sent out new operational policies today that make it clear unmasked children in schools will be singled out, distanced, and default shamed for not wearing a mask. Kids without vax status on file or unvaxed, forced to submit to weekly surveillance testing. 1/3

To discriminate against CHILDREN in this manner is unacceptable and frankly, immoral. Parents are furious and children are fearing ostracism. It’s forcing masks without forcing them. This madness must stop. 2/3 @JasonMiyaresVA @GlennYoungkin @Dunnavant4VA @ChapPetersen

This bill has been received and referred and is scheduled to be heard tomorrow morning in @DelGlennDavis’ House Education Committee.
Kids can’t wait any longer. The science finally needs to be followed. The moment I receive SB 739, which now rescinds statewide mask mandates in schools, a special House Education Committee meeting will be convened to get it to the Governor for his immediate action.

We want to acknowledge our @FCCPS board for staying the course and maintaining their policy to allow parents to opt their children out of masking on Monday 2/14. This was the right choice for parents and children. We hope @fcpsnews and @APSVirginia join them asap. It’s time.

In an overwhelming bipartisan show of support, the Senate of Virginia took a significant step today for parents and children. I applaud Senator @ChapPetersen’s amendment to give parents the right to decide whether their children should wear masks in schools.
