๐ค N722BD - NINE SOULS. NINE FAMILIES. ONE AVIATION FAMILY. โ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ
There are sounds you hear and eventually forget.
And then there are sounds that stay with you. That find their way into your heart and refuse to leave.
I heard the audio. Without warning. Without preparation. And I cannot begin to describe what it felt like to realise what I was listening to.
The composure in the face of the unavoidable. The distress. The fear. The desperate final moments of a young life.
It is haunting.
But what breaks my heart beyond words is knowing that somewhere, there are parents for whom that heartbreaking sound is connected to the very last moments of their daughter's life.
A daughter they raised. Loved. Watched grow. A young woman with dreams, ambitions, a future ahead of her. Someone who found her way into the skies, into a world so many of us love with every fibre of our being.
And now she is gone.
As a mother, I cannot even begin to imagine the unbearable pain of those parents. And I sincerely hope that they are surrounded by all the love, compassion and protection this world can possibly offer.
Yet, while they are facing the unimaginable, something else is happening.
The internet has found its next target.
A 20-year-old young woman who lost her life in a horrific aviation tragedy is being hunted down, judged, accused and publicly torn apart by people who were not in that cockpit, who do not have the evidence, and who apparently cannot wait for an investigation to establish the facts.
She was the co-pilot. Not the pilot in command.
And even that distinction should not be necessary to remind people of something fundamental:
She was a human being.
A daughter. A loved one. A young woman whose life ended far too soon.
She is not here to defend herself. She cannot explain what happened. She cannot answer the accusations being thrown at her.
And yet, thousands of strangers seem perfectly comfortable putting her on trial.
When did we become like this?
When did someone's death become an opportunity to collect likes, generate engagement, spread conspiracy theories and demonstrate who can shout the loudest?
When did we forget that behind every headline, every photograph, every recording and every aircraft registration are real people?
People who have families waiting for them.
People whose phones will never ring with that familiar voice again.
People whose seats at the dinner table will remain empty.
People whose loved ones would give absolutely anything for just one more conversation, one more embrace, one more ordinary day.
Nine people lost their lives.
Not just one young woman.
Nine souls. Nine stories. Nine futures interrupted.
And countless loved ones whose lives have been divided forever into a before and an after.
To every family affected by this tragedy, my heart goes out to you. There are no words capable of making such a loss bearable. But there should at least be enough decency in this world to allow you to grieve without having your loved ones turned into targets of public speculation.
And to my fellow members of the aviation family, I want to say something.
We know that aviation is so much more than aircraft, engines, flight plans and procedures.
It is passion. It is responsibility. It is trust.
It is the mechanic working through the night, the engineer checking every detail, the air traffic controller watching over the skies, the cabin crew caring for those entrusted to them, and the pilots carrying the extraordinary responsibility of bringing people safely home.
It is an entire community of people whose work, dedication and love for aviation connect them across countries, continents, cultures and generations.
We celebrate together when an aircraft takes to the skies for the first time.
We share the pride when milestones are reached.
We understand the magic of flight in a way that is sometimes difficult to explain to those outside our world.
But we also know the silence that follows when an aircraft does not return.
We know that an accident is never just a registration, a headline or a statistic.
And we know that the pursuit of aviation safety demands something far more valuable than speculation.
It demands facts. Evidence. Patience. Integrity. And the courage to learn.
Every accident deserves a thorough, independent investigation. Every contributing factor deserves to be understood. Every lesson that could prevent another tragedy deserves to be learned.
That is how we honour those we have lost.
Not through online witch hunts.
Not by deciding who is guilty before the evidence has even been examined.
Not by destroying the reputation of someone who is no longer here to speak for herself.
And certainly not by circulating the most distressing moments of someone's life as though they were just another piece of content to be consumed.
I understand the need to know what happened. I share it.
We all want answers.
We all want to understand how nine people boarded an aircraft and never came home.
But wanting answers does not give us the right to abandon our humanity.
And being passionate about aviation does not make anyone an accident investigator.
There is a reason investigations take time. There is a reason evidence matters. There is a reason aviation has spent generations building a culture in which understanding failures is more important than rushing to assign blame.
Because the purpose must always be to prevent the next tragedy.
Not to manufacture another victim.
And I cannot help thinking about that young woman.
Twenty years old.
At an age when life should still be opening doors. When dreams should still be taking shape. When the future should feel almost endless.
Whatever the investigation eventually establishes, nothing will change the fact that she lost her life.
Nothing will bring back the eight others who died alongside her.
And nothing will take away the grief of those who loved them.
But we still have a choice in how we respond.
We can choose dignity over sensationalism.
We can choose compassion over cruelty.
We can choose to wait for facts instead of feeding rumours.
We can remember that being part of the aviation family means standing together not only in moments of triumph, but especially in moments of devastating loss.
Because our aviation family is not defined only by the aircraft we build, maintain or fly. It is defined by the people we care for, the responsibility we carry, and the humanity we refuse to lose.
To the nine souls who never made it home:
May you rest in peace.
To the families left behind:
May you find strength in the love surrounding you, and may the world grant you the privacy, dignity and compassion you deserve.
And to the parents of that young woman:
I am so deeply sorry.
I wish the world had shown your daughter more kindness.
I wish people had remembered that before she became a name in a headline, she was your little girl.
And I wish you had been spared the cruelty of watching strangers turn your unimaginable loss into a public spectacle.
There are moments when the entire aviation family should fall silent.
Not because we have nothing to say.
But because respect speaks louder than a thousand opinions.
Nine lives. Nine families. One aviation family in mourning.
May we never become so obsessed with finding someone to blame that we forget how to mourn those we have lost.
And may we never forget that every soul who takes to the skies deserves to be remembered with humanity.
Blue skies and tailwinds, wherever your final journey may lead. United by wings. Fly higher now.๐คโ๏ธ๐ฏ๏ธ

The pilot that flies with me is a female. I will put her flying skills up against any man, airline pilot or military pilot. She is co captain on the planes we fly because sheโs that good. So the notion that women are not good pilots is open asshole bullshit.

In my 35 years as an Air Traffic Controller, I have heard countless radio transmissions, including emergency calls. But listening to the recording of the Mayday call from this tragic flight in Florida was one of the most painful and heartbreaking moments I have ever experienced.
Behind every Mayday call is a human being fighting for survival, a voice desperately hoping to make it home.
As Air Traffic Controllers, we are trained to remain calm, focused, and professional during emergencies. But beneath our headsets and behind our radar screens, we are human too. And sometimes, a voice over the frequency touches our hearts in ways that words cannot describe.
Today, my heart is heavy.
My deepest condolences to the families, loved ones, and everyone affected by this tragedy.
May all those who lost their lives rest in eternal peace. ๐๏ธ
