A Sixth Form group were fortunate to take part in a Black History Walking Tour of Edinburgh. This was an excellent lead-in to our study of @rrobinson72 as we explored hidden Black histories and Edinburgh’s role in key moments of oppression and resistance - thank you @edincarib

The annual judging of the prestigious Morrison Handwriting Competition took place in the English department this morning. Students entered in their droves and after a highly contentious judging process, we are delighted to announce the winners of this year’s awards.

Well done to the 3rd form debaters: our first competition for this year group was won by Bea N, Jess B & Evie Mac, who defeated Martha P, George G & David G, and impressed 6th form judges Alex P, Geordie M, Ziyad AM & Ben L. Thanks to them all and to Miss Palmer for organising! – at Edinburgh, Scotland

This evening third form took part in our interclass debating competition! Competition was fierce going into the first round and semi-final then saw more heated debates. The ‘behind the scenes’ preparations in class meant this was a superb evening of debating. @Fettes_College

This evening the A level English students have joined us in department for a special screening of one of their set texts as part of their revision. An excellent opportunity to recap the text as a whole and to enjoy some cinema snacks! @Fettes_College

What better way to start a week of adventure related non-fiction, than a lesson outside under a tank parachute? Third form were using this experience and drawing upon their own to discuss and write creatively about adventures this morning! @Fettes_College @fc_expeditions

The English department and a group of upper sixth students had a fantastic trip to London this week to see The Duchess of Malfi at the Globe’s recreated Jacobean indoor theatre. A cracking performance to bring to life one of our A Level set texts. @Fettes_College

A superb afternoon of live theatre in London seeing Othello! A really interesting modern interpretation of the play, complete with an actor playing Othello’s internal self alongside the protagonist. Lots of fab discussion in our McDonald’s debrief after…

It’s been a glorious day in Edinburgh for International Literacy Day. We marked the occasion with a little al fresco Ibsen with some of our L6th. Meanwhile, our U6th IB students are finalising text choices for their individual oral. #LiteracyDay
