Dementia, including a dementia diagnosis target, has been removed from the NHS Operational Planning Guidance.
This is a step backwards and sends the message that dementia doesn't matter.
#DementiaDeservesDiagnosis
It’s unacceptable that dementia, including a diagnosis target, has been removed from @NHSEngland planning guidance.
We need to #MakeDementiaAPriority and that starts with diagnosis.

🚨 Breaking news
The new @NHSEngland planning guidance published today contains nothing on dementia.
Like you, we think that’s unacceptable.
Dementia is a priority. Diagnosis is a priority. We cannot ignore the UK's biggest killer anymore.

This Christmas, you may notice some differences to the messages between programmes on ITV.
That’s because for the first time, we’ve partnered with ITV to run a special campaign from 23-31 December, and we’re thrilled that @RuthieeL will be the voice behind the campaign. (1/6)

ALT Ruth Langsford, a woman in her 60s, smiles at the camera. She has blonde hair cut in a bob, and is wearing a black jacket over an orange top. To her left, blue text on a grey background reads: "Having lots my dad Dennis, and currently seeing my mum Joan live with dementia, I know how this time of year can often heighten the heartbreak and loss we feel, coupled with added challenges to manage ongoing caring responsibilities." Ruth Langsford, Alzheimer's Society Ambassador.

With the approval of #donanemab by MHRA we now have two treatments for Alzheimer’s disease deemed safe and effective. It is disappointing that neither will be available on the NHS but this is still a milestone on the journey.
Donanemab and lecanemab are first generation treatments and in other conditions we have seen treatments become cheaper, safer and more effective as research continues. We hope to see similar progress in Alzheimer’s disease.
