Another 10/10 from Lee Chang-dong. Ganeunghan sarang/Possible Love is his most subtle film but vitally important, reminding me of the essays of George Orwell. I had no idea how violent South Korean government/police could be to workers striking, or how deeply being “productive” -

Beautifully said and true. Precisely so. The one 2026 film I feel fully confident that people will be looking at and pondering and responding to in 2076. If human beings are still alive then.
POSSIBLE LOVE: Unfathomably exact and assured in its mining of every implication of social and cinematic connection and separation generated by this four-way dance; Lee’s vision is passionate yet filled with a startling equanimity, ideal for a genuinely inmense cosmos.

........"Possible Love" is my fave film I've seen in a long time. I spoke to Lee Chang-dong & Jeon Do-yeon about the human victims of corporate greed, why a character also has Lee's surname, the role of the Moon, & the secret nods to "Three Colours: Blue": dazeddigital.com/film-tv/art…

In 1972, a group of Harlem Renaissance cultural icons gathered at Duke Ellington's house. The afternoon was captured on 16mm film by William Greaves, but the footage remained unedited in a vault for 50 years until David Greaves restored and completed his father's project, releasing the documentary in 2026. Once Upon a Time in Harlem is a film that every New Yorker should see — and this weekend you can, at no cost. We partnered with the filmmakers to offer free screenings this Saturday and Sunday at the Lincoln Center, Film Forum, and Magic AMC in Harlem. Go to on.nyc.gov/seeharlem to reserve a seat.

My other rave for Lee Chang-dong's POSSIBLE LOVE, this one for @nprfreshair. By no means an expert on Korean pronunciation, but I did my part to normalize the silent "L" in "Lee": npr.org/2026/10/23/nx-s1-601…

'Possible Love' actor Jeon Do-yeon could be the first person from South Korea to be Oscar-nominated for best actress. Director Lee Chang-dong says, “It is still very rare and difficult for an actor in a non-English-language film to be nominated for an Oscar, [and] I believe her performance, which brings such complex, layered emotions to life, can capture audiences’ hearts across language barriers. Proper recognition from the Academy…would be both a recognition of one actress’s achievement and tangible evidence of the change the Academy is striving for.” hollywoodreporter.com/movies…

On Aug. 6, 1972, legendary filmmaker William Greaves invited roughly two dozen Harlem Renaissance luminaries to Duke Ellington’s apartment on Riverside Drive. He threw a cocktail party for the aging artists, writers and intellectuals, with an unusual request: He wanted to film their lively conversations and have several of them return the next day for one-on-one interviews. Some of the attendees hadn't seen each other since the 1920s. Greaves ended up with 60,000 feet of 16 mm film capturing their reflections on what it was like to be part of such an influential artistic movement. He worked on the film for the remainder of his life, editing short segments and filming some additional B-roll, but died in 2014 without ever completing the project. gothamist.visitlink.me/MxaMn…

In select theaters today ahead of its Nov. 6 Netflix debut, Lee Chang-dong's exquisitely acted Chekhovian chamber drama POSSIBLE LOVE — about despair and desire, socioeconomic and psychological unease — might be the year's best film. My @THR review. hollywoodreporter.com/movies…
