200,000 children in schools around Ireland have access to communication boards. There are an estimated 2-3 children in EVERY classroom with a communication need. We remain UNFUNDED ran entirely by volunteers. L @AnneRabbitte @1Hildegarde @Education_Ire @ncseirl @SimonHarrisTD

Now here's where it started to get messy .... when ambassador Bríd O' Donnell made the tears flow with a resounding account of living with #VerbalDyspraxia. The next few posts are dedicated to her (& her outstanding mum)

I hope the road to Heuston was straightforward! It was the best accidental meet up! Thrilled to bits to meet and hear first hand how their 6 communication boards are doing in their school! Brendan’s school is a testament to evolving what inclusion is all about

We are part of that stat. 7 page appeal letter being sent today after refusal for specialist intervention - how many don’t have the patience, resources, energy to appeal and fight for a basic right to access meaningful education and an excellent education at that @josephamadigan
45% of children with support needs are being failed by the educational system as they face multiple barriers to access their right to school. We expect our leaders to stand up and prioritise this with urgency - we are deeply disturbed by the Department of Education's @Education_Ire plan to remove the criteria enabling access to the support of special education teachers for children with ‘complex needs'. “We cannot do more with less” say the National Principal's Forum @ForumTeaching. Inclusion Ireland has written to the Department seeking an immediate meeting and clarification about these changes which have such potential serious consequences. inclusionireland.ie/news-eve… @Independent_ie @irishexaminer @IrishTimes @rtenews @VirginMediaNews @thejournal_ie @TodayFMNews @NewstalkFM @98FM @FM104 @IPPN_Education @CatrionaGolden @simonmlewis @IrishPrimaryPE @INTOnews @EducateTogether

Participants Needed: Focus Group Research to Review the Education for Persons with Special Educational Needs (EPSEN) Act, 2004 The Minister for Special Education and Inclusion, @josephamadigan has asked a group of researchers from the School of Education at @ucddublin to explore people’s experiences of the EPSEN Act, 2004. This will be done using focus group research. The EPSEN Act, 2004 was introduced to ensure that children with special educational needs are supported in schools. We want to hear about your experiences of the EPSEN Act, 2004. You can read more in the invitation flyers on our website here: inclusionireland.ie/news-eve… Please reach out directly to UCD at [email protected] to express your interest in joining these focus groups.

Everything Lyndsey says here - not to mention the door that never gets knocked on or the play dates that never happen….
Most often it’s ‘neurodivergent’ or children with ‘additional needs that are excluded’ from parties - it’s what we know, feel, & hurt from as parents. We have to do better & I’m talking about parents not children. This is detrimental to our children but also yours #NiceToBeAsked
