How to make software faster:
Step 1: Measure things to identify bottlenecks
Step 2: Remove bottlenecks
Sounds very obvious but very few developers actually do step 1 and/or hesitate to do step 2 as it often involves architectural changes.

Surround yourself with relentless humans. People who plan in decades, but live in moments. Train like savages, but create like artists. Obsess in work, relax in life. People who know this is finite, and choose to play infinite games. Find people scaling mountains. Climb together.

Parents focus too much on grades and goals, and too little on generosity.
Kids raised to be kind are more successful in school and work—and happier too.
At family dinner, don't just ask kids what they achieved. Ask who they helped and who helped them.

It's very easy to overengineer and I need to constantly remind myself to keep it simple.
