With Donna: baked apple pies with our natural sweeteners fresh out of the EdgeOfAlgonquin camp oven. Cedar rail fence building on a recently acquired property 40 minutes down the Dome, and watching this loon put on a show in-between. Intermittent rain and sun throughout the day.
We have been a close knit gang since our UofGuelph residence days in the early-mid '70's: the annual get together: EdgeOfAlgonquin camp. Remi (fox red lab retriever) kept a eye out for those 3 black bears). Moose cow and calf and two Algonquin (Red) wolf juveniles in the area.
An 8 day workout in our Algonquin area forest. Purpose: to get a 4 year supply of firewood - in 2 sheds and an outside pile (to be covered). 2 bears, 1 moose cow and calf, last year's calf, 2 bulls - and there is an elk nearby. +26, breezy, 8am. Smoke in the air. Algonquin Dome.
EdgeOfAlgonquin recently: this little lady safely removing another 'painted' off of our own 4 km forest access road east of Sundridge. We usually come across 3 or 4 this time of year.
Question to our drainage people: 4, 3, 2" - all out of the same field. What time periods would the 3 and 2 be?
EdgeOfAlgonquin camp. Yesterday afternoon. 25m from bedroom window; using Nikon SLR telephoto. Note his right horn/growing antler. Cow and calf around as well. They usually check out our home farm's old driveway motion sensor.
May26; 5:57am - as viewed from the back bedroom window. EdgeOfAlgonquin camp up on the Algonquin Dome.
Nature's bounty: 2.5 lbs fresh morels - among those trilliums. MeadowRidgeMaple sugar bush. Morel season is generally over as trillium season peaks, and as most ground cover becomes shaded - this past weekend. Home farm. Walkerton.
EdgeOfAlgonquin: ice off April 22nd. Frost still coming out of the ground on our access road on those Hemlock shaded north facing slopes. Loons and Blue Herons are already back, otherwise all quiet at 8am on the Algonquin Dome.
Dark maple is coming off the evaporator almost every day now. 'Porch pickup' is ongoing and 'self-serve' is restocked 2x daily. Most importantly as a family we were able to participate in Good Friday's 'Walk of Witness' - going to 6 different churches. Have a safe Easter weekend
Our family favorite- off the MeadowRidge evaporator yesterday: 'robust taste' Dark maple window sample bottle with maple trees in the background.
And so it begins- during thunder, downpours, lightning and fog: Golden grade maple coming off of our evaporator- March 7th, 11am.
MeadowRidgeMaple: your source for single batch, unblended, and wood fired maple syrup on a 7th generation family farm. Walkerton, ON.
