AI data centers are driving a surge in electric demand — and one Minnesota project is pitching a different deal for ratepayers. Brand and digital strategist Fisher (fisher.media) breaks down Google and Xcel Energy’s proposed ~780-megawatt data center in Pine Island, Minnesota: more wind, solar, and battery capacity than the facility itself needs, with Xcel saying the added power would serve local customers and push a cleaner grid. Public opposition to local data centers remains high over energy use and cost; the agreement still needs Minnesota Public Utilities Commission approval. On this date in 1986, Bill Buckner recorded one of the most infamous errors in MLB history. 🫣 The Mets would go on to defeat Boston in Game 7 to win the World Series and the curse of the Bambino continued until 2004 for the Red Sox.

OTD 40 years ago, the @Mets were on the brink of losing the World Series, trailing the Red Sox by 2 runs with 2 outs and the bases empty in the bottom of the 10th inning Instead, we saw one of the most dramatic comebacks in baseball history!

There is nothing to worry about. Nothing important is run on PHP or old software—except the water & electrical grid, a few government services like our missile defense systems and a handful of electrified fences at the zoo (for the lions, tigers and cobras).

Tesla's new Roadster hung almost upside down 65 feet off the ground, let go, and caught itself before it landed. The only thing it used to stop the fall was air. Without the thrusters, that's a bad two seconds. From 65 feet, about six stories, a car hits the pavement doing roughly 44 mph. Nobody was inside. Elon said the car drove itself for the demo "to make sure we don't kill anyone." Watch the readout in the bottom left as it drops. It jumps to 3.1 G at 31 feet as the thrusters fire, which is about how hard you get pressed into your seat at the bottom of a big roller coaster drop. While that's happening, attitude thrusters roll the car right side up and thrusters at the corners fire straight down to set it on its wheels. The tanks hold about 250 kg of ordinary air, crammed into two carbon-wrapped pressure vessels totaling 600 liters, the same kind of tank SpaceX flies on its rockets. That works out to air roughly 340 times denser than what you're breathing, stored at several hundred atmospheres. Tesla says it leaves the nozzles faster than the speed of sound and the system puts out more than 80 kN, enough force to hold up over 8,000 kg. The white cloud it lands in comes from the air too. Gas expanding that violently gets cold enough to turn the moisture in the night air into fog on the spot. Nothing on the car is burning. And the tanks refill themselves. Elon says the Roadster can pump them back up on its own, which means the propellant for that six-story catch was the same air you're breathing right now.
JUST IN: Elon Musk unveils the Tesla Roadster by launching it off a ramp before the car flipped in midair and safely landed on the ground. The car is a collaboration between Tesla and SpaceX. One of the most insane things I've ever seen.

Former DOGE official Tyler Hassen is pushing back on the public image of Elon Musk and the team, offering a sharply different account of what he says actually happened behind closed doors. Hassen says Musk was so consumed with solving problems that he sometimes slept on the floor of a nearby office. He also describes DOGE staff going through thousands of contracts and grants, asking officials to “defend the spend” and explain what was mission critical. Hassen acknowledges DOGE didn’t accomplish everything it set out to do, but argues the experience exposed deeper problems inside government operations. Read his firsthand account of what he says Americans didn’t see inside DOGE: foxnews.com/opinion/saw-real…
