where is the lie?
New England is heaven as long as you never have to interact with New Englanders

I have spent 56 years on this planet and 35+ years in high tech of all sorts. There have been few times in that stretch where the breath comes out of me in awe of a massively revolutionary idea that will move humanity to the next plane of existence, and the humans of that era will wonder how we cavemen ever got along without it. This is one.
After six years in stealth, Atomic Machines is out. Our mission: on-demand, universal command of matter. First beachhead: the Matter Compiler, an AI-native manufacturing system that builds working micro-machines from code alone. No per-product tooling. No process development. Different code, different machine.

As long as we're on this: a confession and a question. The Hoteliers were never on my radar, even though they performed a stone's throw from me. I was raising kids during that time period, so they literally never crossed my life until a decade later when my kids are in a band and I am researching emo. Anyway, I am obviously curious now about (1) the location of the home on the photo (much like the Mecca that has become the American Football home), and (2) about the construction of the album name "Home, Like NoPlace Is There". Are there any articles or interviews that delve into this? I only find reviews about the album itself.

1. I don't know EVERY release on this list 2. I don't agree with EVERY positioning on this list But, this is one fucking hell of a good listing, probably the best and most comprehensive undertaking that I've ever seen

CASPIAN just dropped “Far Country”, eight minutes of stripped-back guitars, distortion and zero unnecessary extras. Their self-titled sixth LP lands Oct 16 via Wax Bodega, followed by a full UK/EU run. youtube.com/watch?v=Rls9NCHQ…

Hayley Williams: "If I could tell you anything: go to smaller shows than this, go to little shows at independent venues. Find your people, find your favorite music, and support that. We are all that we fucking have." 🎥: trufishgirly

I tell my kids this all the time with their band, the right time/place/post/meet/listener whatever it is, and lightning can strike in a bottle. I witnessed this band along with everyone else on X just kind of "blow up" because a quick live performance video was shared that was fun and engaging and really well done. You never know when that is going to happen, so you need to keep ensuring that you're there for when it does. Congratulations to @otnr2gng

Step into my attic, it’s like a museum of really good boxes from the last 4 decades.
One thing no one mentions about being an adult is how much time you debate over keeping a cardboard box because it's a really good box. #goodbox

Fascinated by this absolutely benign, pedestrian, simplistic interview with an "up and coming band" touring London. "Where'd you get that banana?"

Well stated, from an insider.
This guy is getting dragged for this comment. But he has a point. Something I tell my @universityofga students all the time. When I started touring clubs, putting records in stores and visiting radio stations I wasn't competing with bands from the last 40 years. But my students playing americana-ish stuff are literally competing with me for slots on festivals like @andbeyondfest. Look I'm not complaining. But it's a real phenomenon. Has something to do with the fact Gen X is willing to spend money going out to shows, so their tastes get catered to. Also 40 years ago, records went out of print, radio only had so many slots for airplay, and record stores only had so much rack space. "Infinite shelves" means you're competing with hits from the past, and past hits are lower risk than new stuff.

SURE, this sounds like the noodling of 1000 other young guitarists in their first little emo rock band, BUT, she's a huge star and she is willing to keep branching out and picking up new things while under the scrutiny of a bazillion people, half of whom will cheer on anything she does, and half of whom are looking for any flaw to point out. I say "good on her, keep it going".
possibly the most nervous she's looked for anything ever 😭
