The word Shambolic is not good enough to describe this story. I never want to hear that NRS are the leaders in story telling in fighting games again. They are not. They are the leaders in pulling wool over your eyes with cool graphics and voice acting. This story had absolutely zero consistency. Let's talk about the power dynamics/scaling. I've said it many times and I'll say it again; if you're playing as a character in story mode they suddenly become the strongest character in the game, incapable of losing. You open as Cyrax and she somehow bests Scorpion in Kombat and leaves him squirming in front of his wife. Then she beats Sub Zero (who is the biggest joke in this games universe but we'll get there). How is Cyrax beating the two leaders of their respective clans like that? How can you be a Grandmaster and lose to a subordinate? She just out ranked you there and then. This is a running theme in the game. As long as you're playing as the character, that character will win in the lore regardless of the opponents strength. Tanya beat Noob in his debut match. Beat his ass so bad she knocked him out long enough to carry him through dimensions without waking him lol. Before I move on, can I just point out that the biggest L in this story mode is Geras. Bro did nothing but take L's. Isn't he some sort of God? The keeper of time? First Nightwolf in MK11 and now this? Being captured by Mad Max rejects with barely any resistance? What is a God in the MK Universe? These guys are made of A4 paper. Oh, there's a part where a bridge collapses and Cyrax pushes Scorpion out of the way to take the fall. Scorpion then thanks her by saying "You saved my life" HUUUUH? That measly fall would have killed Scorpion? MK characters are made of wet towels. Also, Scorpion in this Universe is Chinese so why is his clan called the Shirai Ryu? Isn't that Japanese. Whatever... I like how Lui Kang beats everyone's ass when he's there but they always come up with bogus, nonsencial reasons to keep him out of the fight. "My universe might collapse", bitch Haviks running around just fine, do something FFS. When he does do something, he completely levels the playing field and then conveniently stands around doing nothing. Just giving sage advice that absolutely nobody listens to. Fast forward all the other crap (which I rant about on YouTube, the video will be up later), Havik demonstrates the ability to rip his own limbs off and instantly grow new ones to absolutely no detriment. As a matter of fact, his limbs could spawn new beings. With that in mind, you'd think ripping his limbs off to beat him would be a bad idea. You'd think that would only make things worse for the hero and increase the combatants on Haviks side. NOPE. Noob Saibot.. the dude that lost to Tanya and co solo's Havik by.... YOU GUESSED IT.. RIPPING OFF HIS LIMBS. HELLO? And then... That's just it. He's laying there. Defeated. Beaten by a man that was beaten by everyone else. You can't make this shit up. WHERE ARE YOUR SHADOW CLONES? HUUUUUH? And then... It's just over. That's it. You don't see Havik again. No post credits scene. Nothing. Bi Han falls into a deep sleep so they can heal him, but we later come to learn in his klassic tower ending that he doubled down and continued being a piece of shit anyway. NRS did not cook with this. There's so much more to say on this but my fingers are tired. Nothing made sense. It was really bad. Really really bad. $50 for this? You're joking me. This should have been free and it should have come with a hand written apology as well for wasting my time. I hope I saved everyone in my stream money. God damn. (Side note: the animalities were cool)
