On March 30, the federal and provincial governments announced they would be partnering to commit $8.8 billion over 10 years to lower development charges across Ontario. Ontario’s new home market is heating up after sales tax rebates went into effect this month. “It’s been a jolt to the industry,” Dave Wilkes, BILD President and CEO, told the @globeandmail, noting that developers have told him they have seen a surge in sales.

On March 25, the federal and provincial governments injected $2.2 billion into Ontario’s home construction industry with a one-year break on the HST for buyers of new houses and condos. This means new home buyers are exempt from the 13 per cent HST for one year on all new homes worth $1 million or less. “With the temporary harmonized sales tax cut announced last week by the Ontario and federal government for all new home buyers, now is truly the best time in a decade for those looking to buy a new home to get into the market,” Justin Sherwood, Chief Operating Officer at BILD, told the @TorontoStar about #GTA new home sales in February.
