🕰️ With the clocks going back - now is a great time to discover or even rediscover this incredible hobby The West Midlands Police Scale Model Club (WMPSMC) have long supported the Polish Heritage Flight. Bringing to life types, squadrons & stories with immense talent, care and skill. Plastic models have added an entirely new dimension to the aims of the project: Remember. Inspire. Unity. Our 9th April 2026 ‘Flight Briefing’ on the PHF website shows some of their work, and others who have been kind enough to build and share their talent & care with us. Everyone is an act of remembrance. It is safe to say the PHF Team are big fans of plastic modelling, but it is also fair to say that it may feel very daunting, expensive and leave you slightly anxious about getting stuck in again… so we set Matt Nicholls of WMPSMC a challenge… he takes up the story… “With over 50 years of model making experience I was asked if I could go back to basics. This was to encourage and show people thinking about coming back to the hobby what can be achieved at a minimal cost, with maximum enjoyment. Derek Rusling from the Polish Heritage Flight provided me with a 1/72 Heller Spitfire XVI and of course a sheet of alternative decals for Polish Squadrons who flew the Spitfire XVI at the end of the Second World War. All I could use was basic tools, glue and brushes. The kit in itself is an old tooling with not too much complex detail and requires a great deal of clean. A sharp craft knife, sanding stick or paper and some side cutters for removing parts from the sprues is all that was needed. The plastic used on the kit was nice to work with. This particular Heller release comes in a vivid yellow box, great cover art & with three paints a brush and tube of glue. I would suggest that you purchase a bottle of liquid glue. With the brush supplied, this will give you a much cleaner joint. Recent to the market are paint pens from AK Interactive. A Game changer for adding detail. The images show various stages of the build, also helpful is a roll of masking tape. This allows straight demarcation lines as well as providing extra detail such as seat straps. Having used an airbrush for many years going back to using a brush took me back to my childhood. How things have progressed! Overall an enjoyable kit to build, and I was really pleased with the overall finish given the task at hand! Remember you can achieve great results without the expense so get back into this great hobby. Many Thanks Matt Nicholls” Our most sincere thanks to Matt for this fabulous build and taking up our challenge. With the darker nights drawing perhaps now is a good time to discover or re discover the amazing world of plastic models. 💛 #Heller #plasticmodel #spitfire #plastickit #Airfix

Today we are visiting the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, located on the former RAF East Kirkby. A place set up by the family of Wireless Operator Chris Panton, in his memory, who was lost on the Nuremberg Raid 30/31 March 1944. Through relentless vision and hardwork It has since become a place where we can remember all those who served and the 55’573 Bomber Command Aircrews lost on Operations during the Second World War. Today marks the launch of the 2026 Poppy Campaign for Lincolnshire County. Lest We Forget We Will Remember Them Remember. Inspire. A busy month at RAF Ingham – Centre of Polish Bomber Squadrons! As the autumn leaves begin to fall, here’s a quick look back at the past few weeks. A long-awaited upgrade We’ve waited a long time for this one. Our driveway and car park have now been fully resurfaced. A huge thank you to Richard and the whole Hemswell Surfacing team for their professional, high-quality work. Arriving and parking at RAF Ingham is now much easier. Young visitors, big questions We welcomed two Polish Saturday schools, from Mansfield and Rugby. The children explored the exhibition with real enthusiasm and asked us lots of questions about the Polish airmen, which is the best reward we could ask for. Karolina, who coordinated the Mansfield visit, kindly wrote that the children loved learning about the Polish bomber squadrons, and she thanked our volunteers for their hospitality. Thank you, Karolina. It was our pleasure! Remembering the courage of these crews is more than a history lesson. It teaches values such as bravery, service and perseverance, and it helps young people connect with their roots. Remembering the crew of L5499 Our volunteer Simon represented RAF Ingham at the 86th anniversary commemoration in Calverton, Nottinghamshire. On 13 October 1940, Fairey Battle L5499 of No. 300 Squadron was returning from a successful raid on Calais. Enemy activity over Swinderby and poor weather meant it could not land there, and when its fuel ran out it crashed at Calverton. All three crew members were killed: F/O Jan Gębicki Sgt Edward Morawa Sgt Tadeusz Egierski The ceremony was a moving one. Those attending included the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Members of Parliament, Polish Scouts, the local Royal British Legion branch, and Artur Bildziuk and his wife on behalf of the Association of Polish Airmen. Thank you, Simon, for representing us. We will remember them. Come and visit If you’d like to see Polish–British cooperation in practice, come and visit us. Schools, community groups and individual visitors are always welcome. #RAFIngham #PolishAirForce #300Squadron #PolishHeritage #Lincolnshire #Remembrance #PolishBritish @SimonMassey123 @MickaJakub @ipngovpl_eng @prezydentpl @PolandMFA @ajedrzak

Poland’s Last Hurricane? 🇵🇱🇬🇧 This August, history took to the skies once more — and it may prove to be the last time a Hawker Hurricane wearing authentic Polish Battle of Britain markings ever makes such a journey. Between 7th and 12th August 2026, Hawker Hurricane G-HURI — privately owned by the Historic Aircraft Collection and operated as the flagship of the Polish Heritage Flight in the markings of 302 ‘City of Poznań’ Squadron — successfully flew from Duxford to Poland. The aircraft carried a Pilots’ Log Book filled with hundreds of personal dedications and messages, symbolically bringing a Battle of Britain-era fighter “home” in honour of the Polish airmen who fought for Allied victory and, for so many, never returned. The flight itself was a success. G-HURI reached Polish soil, visiting Piła Airfield and Powidz Polish Air Force Base, where it lined up alongside modern Polish Air Force F-16s — a powerful meeting of past and present. Operational restrictions prevented the Hurricane from continuing all the way to Dęblin, home of the Polish Air Force University. Instead, the Duxford to Dęblin project concluded fittingly on 29 August at RAF Northolt. There, the completed log book was presented to Officer Cadets from Dęblin during the annual Polish Air Force Remembrance Service; the cadets then flew the book home to Poland aboard a Polish Air Force CASA C-295M. Why “last”? G-HURI currently flies in 302 Squadron markings that tell the story of two pilots who took off from RAF Duxford on 15 September 1940. Only one returned. While the Historic Aircraft Collection has supported the Polish Heritage Flight for 7 years now, that support is not guaranteed indefinitely. The team continues to seek long-term owners or sponsors to keep this unique aircraft — the only airworthy Hurricane in the world wearing authentic Polish Battle of Britain markings — flying for future generations. PHF Project Lead Derek Rusling has said: “A living, breathing memorial like a flying Hawker Hurricane honours those who served in such a powerful and evocative way. Poland gave so much in the Second World War on land, sea and air — it fully deserves its own dedicated Memorial Flight, just like the Royal Air Force, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, to ensure the courage and sacrifice is remembered and to inspire future generations.” The RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight operates its own Hurricane, currently in a 303 Squadron scheme, but about to embark on a long period of engineering so won’t fly for some time. BBMF schemes change periodically and an overseas trip of this nature is considered highly unlikely. That leaves G-HURI as the sole aircraft capable of carrying these specific Polish markings on a flight like the one just completed. The Duxford-to-Poland journey was more than a ferry flight. It was living history — an act of gratitude and remembrance made possible by supporters through the JustGiving campaign run in partnership with the Polish Air Force Memorial Committee. The Polish Heritage Flight has never received funding from any government or official body. Whether it truly proves to be Poland’s last Hurricane flight of this kind remains to be seen. What is certain is that the opportunity existed this summer, the aircraft flew, and the messages reached Poland. If you believe this history deserves to continue, support the Polish Heritage Flight, share the story, or help find a long-term future for Hawker Hurricane G-HURI - who knows, a Polish Air Force ‘BBMF’ in the making? Remember. Inspire. Unity. Pamiętamy. Inspirujemy. Zjednoczeni. 🇬🇧🇵🇱 @britishpoles @PolishEmbassyUK @PolishAirForce

Today, we recall an incredible moment of generational wisdom from 2023. In these captivating photos we took at RAF Northolt, 101-year-old Lt Jan Stangryciuk-Black shares a lifetime of wisdom with a cadet from the Polish Air Force University in Dęblin – 80 years his junior. What knowledge or advice do you think the veteran airman was passing on to the next generation? These were likely the last photos of Jan Stangryciuk-Black, a rear gunner with No. 300 "Land of Masovia" Polish Bomber Squadron, who died on 21 October 2023, three years ago. He was a true hero of both Poland and Britain.

A striking painting by Polish artist Jarosław Wróbel shows a Boulton Paul Defiant of 307 Night Fighter Squadron “Lwowskie Puchacze” (Lwów Eagle Owls) on a moonlit night operation. 🦉🌙🇬🇧🇵🇱 Coded EW-K (N3437) and carrying the Polish checkerboard, the Defiant was the squadron’s first aircraft when it formed in 1940 as the only Polish night-fighter unit. While the turret fighter struggled by day, it played an important role in night defence during the Blitz before the squadron moved on to Beaufighters and Mosquitoes. Artwork: Jarosław Wróbel
