WFTC joined the #UniteTheUnion picket at Forest School by catering staff & cleaners striking for two weeks over a pay cut of up to 13.5% due to the imposition of term-time only contracts. Many parents show their support and the student council has voted to back the #strike.

Waltham Forest Trades Council joined local #NEU members lobbying our brand new Green led council. NEU, whose members have been on strike recently at local schools, said "We welcome the change - now for fairer funding for Waltham Forest schools. No more job losses in schools!"

Having visited the picket line at Connaught School for Girls, one thing is clear: education there is not functioning as it should. Students told me directly how much they miss their teachers and support staff. Instead of rich learning in lessons, they’re being given random worksheets and watching films. This is not acceptable. Our young people deserve far better. This strike matters because it is about defending the quality of education. We cannot (and will not) accept redundancies that damage students education. The employer must step up, resolve this dispute, and ensure students get the education they deserve.

We remembered those killed working locally and those currently fighting against the imposition of unhealthy work.

We called for an end to the preventable damage done by work, a reversal of cuts to our failing safety police, the HSE, and more recognition of the role trade union safety reps play in making work safer and healthier. Remember the dead - and fight like hell for the living!

Either they are incompetent or, much worse, a Labour council (the Labour Party is largely funded by trade unions) is colluding in union busting.
