Meet... Emma Jane Champley Emma graduated in jewellery & silversmithing from Loughborough College of Art and Design in 1994 before moving south to work at a leading studio in London’s Clerkenwell, just around the corner from Hatton Garden. She spent ten years in the big smoke of London, learning about the jewellery trade and honing her making skills. In 2004, she moved to rural Ireland, specifically to beautiful county Carlow, which is now her home. What advice would you give someone who is considering this craft career? Don’t worry about getting every aspect of the business right from the start, everything will evolve and improve as the work develops with you. Enjoy the ride! ✨ Meet The Maker ✨⁠ 'Labhair leis an Déantóir' - Leiko Uchiyama ⁠ Leiko began felting in 1992 with an innovative approach that has resulted in a truly distinctive style, not only through the techniques employed, but also in the aesthetic sensitivity to materials, form and function. Leiko's work explores the potential of felt within the twenty first century craft practice. What's your favourite craft item in your home? I love having and using hand crafted items in my daily life. The jewellery made by my best friend, hammered copper plates made by my daughter, stools and goblets swapped with my felt, a felt rug made by Mongolian artist, different tableware made by several artists… Hand crafted items make my life rich and colourful!
