Prime Minister Mark Carney honoured residential school survivors and the children who never returned home as Canada marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.
“Today is about all the truth,” Carney said at a ceremony at Fort Edmonton Park. “And it’s for the children. Those children. Those survivors. Those who didn’t survive.”
Carney said the ceremony called on Canadians to hear survivors’ stories, reflect on what he described as a “dark chapter” in Canada’s past and commit to moving forward together.

Happy Halloween from Dark at @FortEdPark ! 🎃
The team at Dark, along with the talented actors, have completely transformed our iconic living history museum into a giant haunted experience. It was truly a very unique experience to be able to see behind the scenes and meet the people (and scarecrows) involved.
I would like to wishing everyone a very safe and special Halloween tonight! Please be mindful of Edmontons smallest citizens as they go trick or treating! 👻
