TUESDAY MORNING 5am 10/8 #MILTON Update I'm going to drill down to specific impacts and times, based on the latest computer model and forecast agreement, so you can plan accordingly. One thinks, "wind" , when you think 'hurricane', but for central Florida away from the Gulf and Atlantic, the worst overall damage looks to be from flooding rains. Yes, power will likely go out with falling limbs and a few trees, but communities along and north of the center will see 8"-15" of rain inside of 8 hours, leading to flash flooding which could enter homes. TIMELINE: WED Noon-7pm - Hurricane Milton approaches Gulf Coast. Orlando will only have winds 25-45mph in gusts inside of downpours. Scattered tornadoes will be possible during this lead-up time. *Best to stay-in starting at latest Wednesday evening, for the duration of the storm.* WED 7-10pm - Hurricane Milton makes landfall on Gulf Coast near Tampa Bay; Orlando will have winds 25-50mph. Some may remark at how calm it seems in Orlando despite a hurricane landfall. A tornado remains possible here. THU Midnight-3am - The bigger wind finally arrives here. A few gusts 60-75mph possible (especially open areas like airports.) THU 3am-7am - Center of system crossing Orlando with FLOODING RAIN along and north of I-4. Flash Flood Emergencies could be issued. Scattered and less heavy to the south. Tornado threat ends... Winds even calm a bit... Routine 55mph gusts remain... like in a severe thunderstorm THU 8am-Noon - Heavy rain is over, but WORST HURRICANE WIND ARRIVES... As Milton emerges into Atlantic, we'll catch north gusts to 70-85mph on backside of it, in Seminole, Flagler, Volusia Counties... 65-80 mph in Brevard... Storm surge to develop on Atlantic coast of 2-4 feet... At times of high tide coastal flooding and erosion THU Noon-5pm - System moves away, conditions calming ... Still gusty and breezy, we'll see 35-45mph gusts ... At beaches we may see gusts to 60 until nightfall... Atlantic storm surge continues but subsides after 4pm. THU NIGHT and BEYOND We need to talk about generator safety. Many people will use a generator for the first time and some may make the deadly mistake to place it in their garage or even INSIDE, which would allow deadly carbon monoxide to kill them. This seems to happen at least a few times in the aftermath of every major system. Make sure your generator is far away from windows and doors.

12pm Update - Hurricane #Milton is a Category 5 hurricane... Track unchanged. Florida has two days to prepare. This will weaken at it approaches but still bring significant impacts with major storm surge and winds over 100 mph. Heed evacuation orders on the Gulf Coast.

Mon 10/6, 11am : Hurricane #Milton is a Cat 4, expected to become a Cat 5 just north of the Yucatan Peninsula. After it peaks, it'll weaken to a Cat 3 (still 'major hurricane') as it landfalls near Tampa/Bradenton with high storm surge. Power outages/flooding ahead thru Orlando.
