This is wonderful. BUT it should remind everyone that we are losing our hedgehogs at an alarming rate in the UK. Nature needs urgent help.

Just two ravens having a chat... Raven pairs are incredibly expressive birds, using all sorts of calls and sounds to communicate with one another. They’re also known for being talented mimics, with the ability to imitate human speech. 🫶 It’s easy to see why these clever, characterful birds can make you stop for a little while.

A record summer for Kent’s returning choughs! 🐦‍⬛ Red-billed choughs vanished from Kent over 200 years ago, but thanks to a dedicated recovery project, they’re back and breeding in the wild. This summer, eight wild-born chicks fledged, bringing the wild-born total to nine and the county’s chough population to 36 - just two years since the first-ever wild fledging. The birds are also on the move! Once largely centred around Dover, choughs are now regularly being spotted across Thanet and Folkestone. A recent funding boost from Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme, backed by Defra as part of the Wild Again: Restoring England’s Wildlife campaign, is taking the project even further. Wildwood Trust is leading new research using DNA analysis to uncover what Kent’s choughs eat, alongside surveys of key foraging habitats, helping guide the next phase of the recovery and support a thriving wild population for years to come. More releases are coming too, with eight parent-reared birds set to join them in September. Keep an eye out across East Kent - you might just be lucky enough to spot one! The recovery is co-led by Kent Wildlife Trust and Wildwood Trust, alongside Paradise Park, Cornwall. It builds on over 40 years of habitat restoration by Kent Wildlife Trust with the National Trust, English Heritage and White Cliffs Countryside Partnership.
