Civil servants from the Home Office, HMRC and other departments spent months inside BBC News and BBC Verify. They drafted articles, analysed small-boat numbers, checked crime stats and fact-checked politicians — all published under ordinary BBC bylines with no mention they still worked for the government.
The BBC says its own editors kept final control. That may be true on paper. It doesn’t explain why taxpayer-funded officials were quietly producing the copy on the most contested stories while viewers were told it was pure BBC work. The secondments have been running for years. Bylines are only now being “corrected.”

Oh wow - Reuters found the GitHub record of the attempt by AI models being tested by the UK's AI Security Institute to deploy malware in an open-source project.
Pretty sure these actions are illegal under the Computer Misuse Act in the UK.
This was done by AI models that AISI intentionally deployed without guardrails. Should AISI be held responsible for the models' actions? If not, then who should be?
