A message to all you people trying to tear down the Body of Christ instead of building up the Body of Christ:

Pope Leo XIV denounces abortion in Uruguay:
βThe unborn already belong to the human family, and to the future of their people. Their absolute dependence on their mother does not diminish the dignity to which they are entitled, nor to the protection they deserve. Jesus Himself chose to assume this condition.
Welcoming a new life requires that fathers assume their responsibilities alongside mothers, that the family offers their support and that social conditions exist that allow both parents to raise and care for their children.
Protection of the unborn and the support of those who welcome them are inseparable. The family remains the primary setting in which each person is welcomed and learns to life with others.
St. John Paul II, who also had the joy to visit this land, expressed this in a phrase that retains all of its original force; βAs the family goes, so goes the nation and so goes the whole world in which we live.ββ
I know weβre all worried about AI taking over but hearing two Italian barbers talk about ChatGPT helping them find a sofa was surely worth all the trouble AI may bring into this world. Bellissimo.

Pope Leo XIV calls out abortion and euthanasia in the Spanish Parliament:
βCan a community that casts into the shadows the unborn child, the elderly, the sick, those who suffer in silence, or those who depend entirely on the care of others be called fully just? The defense of human life is neither a partisan issue nor a confessional interest: it is a goal of civilization. Every human life must be recognized and safeguarded from conception to its natural end, in every circumstance of its existence. When this certainty is obscured, the most vulnerable are the first victims, and the law loses its deepest meaning: to serve and protect every person. For this reason, the moral greatness of a nation is manifested, above all, in its capacity to accompany, protect and love those lives that are most fragile.β

Messinaβs Catherine of Siena, commissioned in 1961 to commemorate the 500th Anniversary of this great Saintβs canonisation -she who was influential in the Papacy returning to Rome from Avignon- sits near Castel SantβAngelo, with St. Peterβs Basilica visible in the background.
Bring. It. Back.
Nun Day at Fenway Park was a cherished Boston tradition that dates back to the early 1960s. It originated as a special event organized by the Boston Red Sox, in collaboration with Boston Archbishop Cardinal Richard Cushing, to honor and host hundreds of nuns at a home game.
The initiative began with an invitation from Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey to religious communities across greater Boston. Large groups of sisters, often dressed in traditional habits, attended games in significant numbersβsuch as the approximately 700 nuns who joined Cardinal Cushing for a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on July 5, 1961. The nuns occupied sections in the grandstand, typically on the third-base side, making for a memorable scene. The last major observance of βNun Dayβ appears to have occurred around 1972.

Powerful reflections from Bishop Erik Varden's 11th and final conference given at the Vatican:
Reverence for Christβs wounds defined Christian sensibility for centuries. It found expression in devotion to relics of the Passion; in Stations of the Cross; in poems and paintings; in works of music from Renaissance Lamentations through Bachβs Passions to nineteenth-century hymnography. It was expressed in the cult to the Sacred Heart that spread worldwide in the wake of revolutionary furies. At the heart of it was respect for the tremendous mystery of suffering, constitutive of the human condition as we know it. The Cross lets us own reality while it affirms the non-finality of wounds, which can be healed and become sources of healing.
To root ourselves within this mystery of faith is to work a constructive revolt against several fallacies: against the political fallacy that society, and the state, should be run on an evolutionary model in view of human perfectibility; against the anthropological fallacy of a normative standard of βhealthβ deployed to mark divisions between lives βworth livingβ and lives βnot worth livingβ; against the cultural fallacy that ascribes to wounds a fatal, deterministic power; and against the psychological fallacy that surrenders to hopelessness, mesmerised by the voice that whispers in our ear, at dead of night, regarding our most intimate hurts: βIt will always be like thisβ.
Christβs Passion lets us lament without rage. It opens us to compassion, which is an epistemological category apt to prepare a graced insight like Jobβs: βI had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, now my eye sees you.β We may call out to the Crucified-and-Risen-One: βMy Lord and my God!β The Gospel states that Christβs wounds, after his rising, were not done away with, but rendered glorious. The worldβs wounds can be, too, when Christβs oil and wine are poured upon them.

May God bless Archbishop Ronald A. Hicks abundantly in his new ministry as the Archbishop of New York!

Happy #TΓΌrkiye Day
I am pleased to begin the Apostolic Journeys of my Pontificate with a visit to #TΓΌrkiye, for this land is inextricably linked to the origins of Christianity, and today it beckons the children of Abraham and all humanity to a fraternity that recognizes and appreciates differences. #ApostolicJourney vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/eβ¦
