In Austin, I visited a coffee shop tucked into a single-family neighborhood. It was a community hub where neighbors gathered over coffee and breakfast tacos. We need more third spaces spaces like this to bring our rapidly fracturing society back together, not fewer…

Edith Stein, 1941:
“Our own access to what’s going on in our minds is very impoverished. […] The sense—which was overpoweringly obvious to somebody like John Locke or Descartes—that the mind is transparent to itself […] has been completely overthrown.” —Daniel Dennett on knowledge of the mind

Falling in love with Jesus changes everything. From henceforth, nothing else compares—and therefore, you’re going to live out of that experience of faith in the risen Lord. You won’t be kowtowed by political ideology, fortune, the temptation to reduce the neighbor to object. You’ll see the risen Lord in the unborn, the prisoner sentenced to die, the migrant, and the elderly. You’ll be shaken by every word and deed our Lord did in the Gospels. And you’ll discover a source of happiness that’s different from everything else. You’ll be weird. And probably rejected. But you’re in love.

WRT the William Lane Craig thing, it occurs to me that anyone who sees their task as “arguing for the existence of God” is unlikely to get theology proper right.

LONG THREAD: Mulling over this a bit over several years, I do think that there is a deeply rooted sociological reality at play here, which most people don’t consider: historically, the priesthood is a leisure class and really does function that way in US/western society. [1/?]
I'm going to say the quiet part out loud. Diocesan priests have more discretionary income than all laity working at the same parish. Priests also have better benefits, retirement, vacation, job security, etc. I'm not asking less for them - but more for the rest.
