“Aging Untold” recently interviewed JHADRC faculty, Dr. Abhay Moghekar, about the blood test for Alzheimer’s disease that received FDA approval in May 2025. This test helps detect amyloid plaques, a key indicator of Alzheimer’s disease, and Dr. Moghekar contributed to the study supporting its approval. The test is intended for people aged 55+ who show signs of memory problems, and is meant to be used alongside other diagnostic tools – it is not a standalone test. Dr. Moghekar called it “a breakthrough in the field” and said, “I think we are moving towards the goal of preventing Alzheimer’s disease rather than treating it once you already have it.” Read the story/watch the video linked below for more information about this promising progress! wowt.com/2026/10/16/fda-appr…

Supported by @ARPA_H, the @HopkinsMedicine #DETR team, led by @XiaoboMao, is building #AI models that read a protein’s shape, not just its sequence, to support earlier disease detection and to identify therapeutic targets for conditions caused by protein misfolding.
