Tomorrow President Trump will have his first meeting with the new French ambassador to the US @FrenchAmbUS. It's a tricky time in US/Franco relations; last weekend Trump evoked the protests that have engulfed France in recent weeks, saying 'the migrants have taken over France'. French President Macron has called such remarks by Trump and other world leaders 'stupid comments'.
State Department official tells me this is incorrect. They say the ordered departure is only for 'non-emergency US government employees and their family members' and is limited to Saudi Arabia only.
BREAKING: US orders full evacuation of US embassy staff and their families in Saudi Arabia immediately, with families of embassy staff in the UAE, Jordan, Qatar and Bahrain also ordered out, per a diplomatic source to AFP.

Just back from a reporting trip to West Virginia, where a looming data centre project has sparked fierce backlash from local residents. A coalition of residents, named Tucker United is demanding more transparency from officials and the shell companies behind the project.

When most people think of Russian President Vladimir Putin, I don’t think the word ‘humanitarian’ is one of the first words that comes to mind.

If you need to understand how Russia is seeing President Trump's softening on sanctions and energy deals, just look no further than this post from Putin's investment envoy.
On Monday, prior to the executive order that waived much of the Lindsey Graham act, he said 'We are also discussing joint projects in the field of Russian and US data centres, including with the use of small-scale nuclear power plants'.

Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."
White House officials have said that Katie will be transitioning to a new role. Katie’s tweet makes it sound like the departure is total.

Telling from the Telegraph reporting here that Musk was only alarmed by ‘the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe’ and not the amount of lives at stake from a Ukrainian defence weakened by his artificial throttling of Starshield.
EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk came to Donald Trump with the plan to throttle Ukraine’s use of SpaceX’s Starshield satellite internet network, sources have told the Telegraph.
The tech billionaire made the proposal during the US President’s row with Volodymyr Zelensky over strikes on Russian oil refineries.
‘The reality is that they were both in it,’ a senior source said of Musk’s and Trump’s involvement.
But after a night of carnage in Kyiv caused by the slowdown, Musk was alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe.
The SpaceX boss then proceeded to tweet, blaming the US administration, and ultimately, President Trump for authorising the slowdown.
‘He tweeted out that he was innocent and that it was the US administration that did it,’ the source said.

I’m told Trump was embarrassed by the coverage of Zacharia’s briefing and when he polled other aides about her, Zacharia had few allies willing to stand up for her or defend her performance. The main reason he rushed to select her after growing irritated with how long the process was taking to replace Karoline Leavitt was because he wanted more people defending him on TV. When she failed to do so in a sufficient way with Sean Hannity, Trump said he knew she needed to go.
Fox News is quoting a Senior Administration Official saying that Katie Zacharia is ‘transitioning out’ of her role as White House Press Secretary - just 4 days after she started and 3 days after her first press briefing.
President Trump gives White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia an off-ramp to leave the role just 5 days after starting the position.
Trump: ‘I said to Katie “you don't have to do this if you don't want to […] honestly, if I were you, I'd reconsider."’
He adds that the media have treated her ‘nastily’.
NEW: Recent reports that Russian diesel entered the US through the port of Wilmington, NC are false.
A source there tells me that the vessel MINERVA ZEN - a Greek-flagged oil and chemical tanker - was carrying Urea Ammonium Nitrate (UAN), a liquid fertiliser.
The ship left St Petersburg, Russia on September 22nd and recently arrived in Wilmington.
Statement from the CDC to me a few moments ago about the suspected plague outbreak in Russia:
‘CDC is aware of and closely monitoring reports of a suspected case of pneumonic plague in the Irkutsk region of Russia that resulted in a death. We are working across the U.S. government to assess developments as additional information becomes available.
While the circumstances of this reported case remain unconfirmed, plague is a serious bacterial disease that is treatable with antibiotics, particularly when recognized and treated early.
Pneumonic plague can spread person-to-person through respiratory droplets during close contact, which is why rapid identification and treatment of infected individuals, and monitoring of potentially exposed individuals, are important public health measures.
At this time, there is no indication of a broader threat to the United States, but CDC and our interagency partners are prepared and will continue to monitor the situation closely.’
President Trump seems to suggest he was bluffing when he threatened to ban diesel exports outside of the US, saying it was ‘never really on the table’.
Speaking to sources about the G7 decision to release oil reserves, they are pushing back against the notion that this was a capitulation to President Trump after his threat to ban diesel exports. They say that they are happy with the outcome and say there were their own domestic circumstances to think about. One source said the US domestic/political situation didn't play in to their decision making. Another says the decision was more meant to send a signal to the markets and bring oil prices down quickly.
