Real freedom comes from being able to get up and go where you please and not be someone’s lackey.
That freedom requires the help of other free people. Ask any person who is entirely self sufficient and doesn’t rely on anyone for anything.
They’re not free. Their life is constant work because humans are more free when we help others. Many hands make light work. You can’t be carpenter, welder, blacksmith, cobbler, accountant, janitor, farmer, chimney sweep, pest controller, baker, butcher, hunter, gatherer, and still have time to eat and shit.
We used to give food to strangers and travelers and take people in to hear their stories as payment. We used to, each of us, be both creditor and debtor. We made money out of nothing like the banks do today. We used to give out favors and receive favors as currency. We could drop everything and follow a dream and our neighbors would help look after our affairs while gone because then they could follow their dreams and be content too after we returned.
Freedom comes from being truly human. We can only be truly human when we don’t calculate credits and debits. There’s a story about a couple of hunters. One gets a big haul of meat. The other gets nothing. The successful hunter gives the unsuccessful hunter a bunch of his meat. He says “I don’t want to hear anybody say thank you. What I get today you might get tomorrow and I’d hope you’d help me. By gifts one makes slaves and by whips one makes dogs.”
He’s saying that by worrying about who gave what to who we become like slaves. When we try and force people to do what we want by force we make people into dogs. We give freely without a record of the gift because being human means not worrying about who gave what to who. You’re truly human when you give freely.
You can look at this another way. Ayn Rand would say “getting the most good for yourself is the best thing you can do”. By being generous without accounting you do get more in the long run. Sure anybody can work the system and rob entire communities of their wealth and resources. But that’s very short sided. Much better to have an entire community healthy and full of resources they can give freely to each other so it is stronger. A stronger group of people means you’re stronger by being apart of them than you’ll ever be even if you stole everything that makes them strong. You’ll never be able to do the work of the whole community even with all its resources.
So freedom only exists without money. Without artificial strife, in this world of plenty, is where we can be free. “Over and over I have set forth the qualities that we Wendat believe ought to define humanity – wisdom, reason, equity, etc. – and demonstrated that the existence of separate material interests knocks all these on the head. A man motivated by interest cannot be a man of reason” -Kandiaronk a truly free man
We do have enough, scarcity is virtually eradicated. This is obscene in the richest empire in history.
44% of US adults struggled to afford at least one basic necessity in the past year, per Pew Research Center.
Among lower-income adults, it’s 71%.
In the past year, Americans said they:
Had trouble paying for medical care: 28%
Had problems paying for daily transportation: 22%
Had problems paying rent or mortgage: 21%
Got food from a food bank: 20%
Is the reason you don’t murder, rape, and steal because you fear external/eternal punishment or because you’d not want others to do that to you?

. @ComicDaveSmith asks @coldxman Hughes about NY under Mamdani. Coleman says he feared Mayor Mamdani's politics would hurt New York, but so far has seen nothing seriously worth worrying about.
Ooof moderates need to take it easy for awhile. Let the more left of central do some consensus processes and find better solutions.

Great stuff @MalloryMcMorrow
What’s so funny is this all started with centrists clutching pearls demanding people disavow @hasanthehun. So liberals literally handed republicans a strategy. Too bad you can’t get ripe apples from a rotten vine.
This is centrist politics. Everything that the majority of people want is silly. Everything that wonks can take credit for expertly shave a few thousand people to vote for the centrist candidate in some bullshit triangulation is good and right.
I have 1 baby and I’m settled and while I work 40hrs a week I make all the time I can for my 1 baby. This guy is addicted to hoarding money and getting his ego stroked. 14 kids is a person with now self control.
The center is why republicans win. They’re a professional class of scoffing, sneering, liberal elite. Republicans and their voters see themselves and kids much more likely to be a business owner. So they identify with people who aren’t openly calling them dumb.

She might be racist

Haley Stevens - by far the largest beneficiary of AIPAC money ever - met her fiancé, a $24,000 bundler to Susan Collins, through her finance chair David Kramer, who also announced this week that he was voting for Mike Rogers. Makes you go “Huh!! How about that!”

Detroit News: Haley Stevens' fiancé Jason Turkish says he believes Abdul El-Sayed is anti-semitic which has convinced him to vote for Mike Rogers.
Turkish intends to attend a Mike Rogers event on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in Birmingham.
There, Rogers is set to take part in a forum sponsored by the Republican Jewish Coalition titled, "Who Will Keep Us Safe? Rogers vs. El-Sayed in the Wake of October 7th and the Temple Israel Attack."
Interesting… the right is always and everywhere doing what they publicly fear immigrants/minorities/others are doing.
This is how corruption is legal. You legislate to reward private companies market dominance who will reward you with campaign funds (bribes). They keep the overt corruption illegal to say the country isn’t really corrupt….

Great tips from Brazil on how they turned things around for Lula online and offline:
1. Don’t ever engage, block far-right accounts immediately.
2. Don't debunk, focus on making new content on your platform.
3. Use all the tools at your disposal.
4. Be equally online and offline.
