Thank you @MbroCouncil & @stocktoncouncil for passing motions in support of Free Period, & to those helping with donations in Community hubs across Middlesbrough. The support has been amazing, but we mustn't forget the causes of #PeriodPoverty & the political reasons behind it.

A must watch: Brexit will hit women harder. Austerity has hit women harder. Women MPs targeted by right wing thugs. So well done Anna for standing up for your constituents. You are right, no one votes to be poorer #peoplesvote
Replying to @annaturley
WATCH: People are fed up of our area being left behind. Many voted to leave because they wanted this to change. But it was UK governments that have caused this, not the EU. The facts of Brexit are clear now - we will be hit the hardest and no one voted to lose jobs on Teesside.

There are some councillors in Stockton who think period poverty is a myth. Maybe if they don’t believe local women, they might believe a man investigating poverty, human rights and how it disproportionality impacts women and kids #austerity amp.theguardian.com/society/…
Sadly we don’t have to look far to find schools with similar policies, but what is this tory gov doing to end this - celebrating the zero beh policy in Schools - we think its dehumanising but they do nothing metro.co.uk/2018/09/27/girl-…

This is why we’re pledging to provide free sanitary products in schools across the Tees Valley:
"It's degrading, but you just have to do it." Stevie-Jo Pasing on the "shame" associated with #periodpoverty and research suggesting 140,000 girls miss school every year because of it. #periodpoverty #endperiodpoverty

Before we can introduce the s card to tees valley we need to break down the stigma of periods. Any suggestions twitter @EmmaChesworth1 @clkh_ @grangefieldward @LindaGHug @hnrwbell
Today is #MenstrualHygieneDay, and at Free Period we’re working to raise awareness of #PeriodPoverty in Tees Valley. We have secured the support of all 5 local authorities and are working to conduct a pilot scheme to provide free sanitary products to women and girls in need.

We should also be examining the causes of #PeriodPoverty, particularly here in the North East. Although we have been able to provide donations to women and girls in need, it shouldn’t be down to communities to pick up the pieces of failed government policy.
