Door hinge on our 1913 CP Boxcar. Note the square nuts.🟩 This boxcar ran the Apple Route through the Golden Horseshoe (Toronto/Hamilton) back in the day during Apple Harvest season.🍏🍎 Our boxcar has since been repainted a more accurate Boxcar Brown (or Oxide Red).

😳🀩 Whoever invented this was a genius!!!! Britain once delivered the post at full tilt… without the train ever stopping. From the first successful exchanges in 1838 (thanks to pioneers like Nathaniel Worsdell, John Ramsey & John Dicker) to a peak of 245 lineside points by 1913, this system kept letters racing across the country for more than 130 years. The final bag exchange took place at Penrith on 4 October 1971, when roads and planes finally took over. A quiet piece of railway ingenuity that moved the nation’s mail through the night. πŸŽ₯ mekra640

The Freeman Post Office was across the street. You could get boots & shoes there too. There was no official Village of Freeman. It was an intersection on the Freeman family farmland just north of the village of Burlington Ontario. – at Burlington, Ontario
