They are actually measuring the heat that is leaving the planet using the satellite, the higher their heat radiance measurement, the more heat that is actually leaving the planet, the more cooling of the planet that is actually being measured, while they scream about overheating.

Surface Air Temperature
You'd have to add the Skin angle, parallel and labeled, to "regular" weather report.
Replying to @RalphKuerbis
I've seen them a time or
two try to slip in "surface temperature over 150F"
That's obviously ltry the Radiance of a surface
translated to °F/(C)
Which is "fine" in sense at least not adding second translation
Surface Radiance
-> °F
-> °F at 2m◇6ft

Supersized heat waves used to be rare. No longer. A Reuters data-driven examination of global temperatures reveals the emergence of what we call heat storms. They now swarm the planet, upending life around the world. reut.rs/4zBUXtM

In the 1960s, the biggest heat wave covered about 6% of the planet. This decade's biggest touched almost 85% of the globe over 367 days.
Calling that a ‘heat wave’ is like calling a monsoon a rain shower. So Reuters worked with climate researchers on a new concept: the heat storm. reut.rs/4dPLxmd
