Yesterday, China provided some details on the precursor missions that will take place ahead of its crewed lunar landing in 2029, as well as what the program's future may look like using eight supposed Lanyue variants Details -> china-in-space.com/p/china-d…

Leaked slide confirms the four-mission progression toward China’s crewed lunar landing: 🚀2027: Maiden flight of Long March 10A carrying Mengzhou CSS cargo resupply mission, to validate the new human-rated vehicle and Mengzhou’s orbital operations in LEO. 🚀2028: First flight of the heavier CZ-10 with an uncrewed Lanyue lander performing a lunar descent and ascent test, exercising the lander’s propulsion and guidance. 🚀🚀2029: Dual CZ-10 launches of Mengzhou and Lanyue for a full-scale lunar-orbit rehearsal, demonstrating rendezvous, docking, and integrated operations. 🚀🚀Before the end of 2030: Dual CZ-10 crewed lunar landing mission.
China’s pre-2030 Moon roadmap is locking in 🌕 The Tests: CZ-10A: Mengzhou cargo mission to CSS CZ-10: Standalone Lanyue descent/ascent test 2x CZ-10: uncrewed full dress rehearsal The Mission: • Crew of 3 (2 to surface) • 3-day surface stay (daily EVAs)

Two Chinese astronauts will step onto the lunar surface before 2030.🌕 Three Chinese astronauts will be travelling in this lunar mission. How will they get there? A "two launches, one moon landing" plan, using a lunar-orbit rendezvous flight mode.

On Oct. 31, 1936, a group of Caltech students and enthusiasts began rocket propulsion tests in Arroyo Seco, north of Pasadena, CA. Their work 90 years ago marked the beginning of @NASAJPL, now a vital part of NASA's exploration of the solar system and beyond. Happy 90th JPL!!

Teams also resolved an unexpected loss of communication with Voyager 1 when the Deep Space Network did not detect the probe’s signal during two scheduled comms passes. Contact was reestablished on Oct. 20, and the team has maintained communication since then.  go.nasa.gov/4is3TLi

Another successful fix ⏤ after 49 years and 16 billion miles! 🔧 Engineers recently turned off devices on Voyager 1 and substituted them with lower-power alternatives. Nicknamed the “Big Bang,” the energy-saving effort will allow the remaining instruments to operate longer.  ½

From a small group of rocket pioneers in 1936 to missions exploring Earth, Mars, the outer planets, and beyond, JPL has helped shape humanity’s understanding of the universe. 90 years later, and we’re still exploring.

To observe our globe whirling by, from atop a perch in the vacuum of space, is to experience beauty and awe and wonder (and vulnerability, too) like never before.

Can confirm. It’s always sunny in space. Yesterday, we completed USOS EVA 100 and installed a new solar array on space station. Over 25 years operating in the harshest environment and using the sun’s energy to do it! Here are a few photos taken on the spacewalk.

Collectively called 2MASX J09133888-1019196, these two galaxies are in the early stages of merging, pulled in by their mutual gravitational attraction. They're still separated by ~130,000 light-years, and reside in the constellation Hydra: go.nasa.gov/4zjJwHu

NASA astronauts Tracy Caldwell Dyson and @astro_Pettit test an analog mockup of Astrolab's Crewed Lunar Vehicle, or CLV-1. Astronauts are crucial to testing the human factors of our rover designs. Incorporating feedback from people with experience in space suits in reduced gravity is invaluable to our engineering teams.
