It was a rhetorical question: “Are you not entertained?” Monstrously, for shame, we were. But the time for honoring himself would soon be at an end – Then the real festival would occur! #FromOneLine

It was a rhetorical question I think as my eyes roll Almost involuntarily Mansplaining at its unfinest What is the need for this? Aggravation overload My brain may explode I send brain waves To just shut it up Nevermind It's better I find To just walk away #FromOneLine

It was a rhetorical question Yet everytime I asked it Someone just had to answer What don't they get When I ask Should I give up chocolates or cats There's no choice to be made And why in the world would I want to do that #433 #FromOneLine

It was a rhetorical question of some faith. Miracles? Well, what d’ya know? She didn’t get it, extolling the virtues of what she thought she knew of the Saints. Her inquisitor sighed (the irony of her spectacular failure), resisting the urge for hypostrophe. #FromOneLine 433

It was a rhetorical question Framed to persuade More statement than query Very heavy on the parody And yet it was taken seriously by the many troll influencers in #training residing here on Twitter who are literally allergic to nuance #FromOneLine #inkmine #poetry #vss365

It was a rhetorical question from this nightshift wordsmith. So who's true to the game / part of the resistance? Some will persist; others cut and run? We fight against the abyss destined policy, we won't come undone. #FromOneLine, #unchainedsymphonies, #OurPoetryX, #Amatory

It was a rhetorical question Answered by your sudden smile Across the cold screen Leaving me unprepared For a sudden list in gravity The way the silence caught fire And how a brief, electric glance Could anchor a heavy storm #inked_soull #FromOneLine 433 #prompt

It was a rhetorical question Which was somewhat bizarre Appearing in a music exam Relating to the classical guitar But my #nervous energy Saved the day Instead of answering I began to play #FromOneLine #VSS365

It was a rhetorical question The answer I thought self evident Just trying to wrest a reaction Another failed attempt at conversation in hope of a reconciliation with the remnants of your thread bare soul #fromoneline #inkmine #wordlepoetry #poetry #poem #amwriting

#vss365 #FromOneLine 433 #fantasy (356 wds) Bench of Stone It was a rhetorical question; of that I was quite certain then, but now I know better. The last time I talked to her — and I did not expect half a century of absence to follow — we were sitting on the stone bench with tiny engraved dragons at the far end of my family’s orchard, in the shade of a flowering apple tree. Bees, heavy with sweetness, murmured through the blossoms, and the light fell across the stone in shifting sequins of gold and shadow. She was so close that her hair tickled my ear. “Tell me,” she said. “Do I strike you as someone who could make a man happy forever?” I was eighteen and so nervous I could taste dry metal in my mouth. I wished to proclaim my answer from the rooftops of every grand house in the Capital, but I recalled my mother’s warnings that few survive intimacy with her kind. She sighed, and I sensed her moving away hesitantly, as if awaiting further words from me, but I stared at my gilded sandals and blurted, “Tomorrow? Here again?” …***… I squint at the figure that emerges through the wall of my study: fair-haired, barefoot, and not a day older in her dress of living leaves. Tiny butterflies in colours I have no names for circle her half-folded wings. The scent of honey and pine needles cuts through half a century of mastering magick and outmanoeuvring rivals until I sat at the head of the Sorcerers’ Council, never having caressed a woman or soothed a child, or wandered the woods for no reason at all. I rise, steadying myself with a liver-spotted hand against my desk. She stops before me, pale as frost on glass. “A word of warning. If you answer, everything after the bench is undone: your power, your titles, every memory you have made since.” The corner of her mouth lifts. “Though youth and ignorance have their advantages.” She smooths her leaves. “So. To repeat myself, do …” but I interrupt her. “Oh yes, you strike me most completely.” Somewhere, the bees are humming again. #nervous
