Three years of resistance. Three years of gratitude. Three years of absolute heroism of Ukrainians. I am proud of Ukraine! I thank everyone who defends and supports it. It’s good that Slovakia’s Prime Minister Fico has finally returned from his vacation at a luxurious hotel in Vietnam and is now in Bratislava. For him, personally, it must be challenging—switching from living in luxury to now trying to fix his own mistakes. It was an obvious mistake for Fico to believe that his shadowy schemes with Moscow could go on indefinitely. We offered our assistance to the people of Slovakia during their adaptation to the absence of Russian gas transit, but Fico arrogantly refused. Many in Europe warned him that doing nothing and waiting was not an option. Now, he’s resorting to PR, lies, and loud accusations to shift the blame away from himself onto someone else. But the real problem is that he bet on Moscow, not on his own country, not on a united Europe, and certainly not on common sense. From the beginning, it was a losing bet. We hope that further diversification of energy supply sources in Europe, cooperation with the European Commission, and the implementation of President Trump’s policy to increase American gas supplies to the continent will help address the challenges caused by the shortsightedness of certain European figures.

There are pages in our history that are too painful to remember; but cannot be forgotten. The crimes that prove: the cruelty and cynicism of tyrants know no bounds. No words have yet been invented to fully describe the pain that Ukrainians have endured. In 1921, 1922, 1923. In 1946 and 1947. And in the darkest years of the Holodomor genocide of 1932–1933. Men, women, children. Millions of innocent, tormented souls. Millions of our ancestors whom the totalitarian regime pushed into the grip of starvation and death. Cynically. Brutally. Deliberately. Because they were Ukrainians. How can anyone seek to erase an entire nation? How can anyone take away the very last from people—their last crumbs of food, their last means of survival, their last hope for life? It is beyond comprehension. Yet there is something we know for certain. They wanted to destroy us. To kill us. To subjugate us. They failed. They wanted to hide the truth and silence the terrible crimes forever. They failed. They wanted to confuse us, mislead us, make us doubt—to forget, and in forgetting, to forgive. They failed. And so, every year, at the end of November, with deep sorrow and profound respect, we honor the memory of the millions of Ukrainians who became victim of the Holodomors. Today, as always, at exactly 4 p.m., we will light candles of remembrance. As long as we light this flame, their memory will not fade. May the glow of millions of candles warm millions of their souls. May they all rest in peace.
